Nintendo discusses DS Online

DS News | Wi-Fi hotspots, easy connections and two new DS colours all promised from Nintendo.
During the Games Convention in Germany, Jim Merrick, senior marketing director of Nintendo of Europe discussed Nintendo’s strategy to tackle the online market in Europe later this year. Merrick mentioned that Nintendo will set-up a number of Wi-Fi hotspots in game stores and fast-food restaurants by the end of this year, and that Nintendo promises that the online features of the DS will be seamless and easy to use – without a password or URL in sight.

In addition, Nintendo will release a Wi-Fi adaptor for personal computers, which can be used by people not owning a wireless router to use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection at home. Unfortunately, Nintendo didn’t mention any specifics on the console’s official online launch date, but if the release of Mario Kart DS is any indication we should find ourselves online before November 9th, or on the same day.

Nintendo of Europe has also announced that the release of two new DS colours will coincide with the release of Nintendogs on October 7th. The two new colours will be Pink and Blue.

Online gameplay doesn't matter until Animal Crossing releases. Well as far as I am concerned anyway.

Least my DS colour has been chosen (the blue one). icon_smile.gif

I better hurry up and get my router online...

I think the new colors look a bit tacky. I'm more than happy with silver. If they're going to release novelty DS's, they should do it with decals like they did with the SP (golden Zelda Tri-force decal). I'd love to see that on a DS.
