True - but how about a rebuttal then? I haven't played much PS2 this year, but it's probably the only competition for that crown.

Kirby Power Paintbrush?

ANOTHER Name change?
Still no sign of an Animal Crossing DS date? Damn.
I've got Meteos.

I saw Kirbys Canvas Curse the other day too.

The truth is your probably right - although it's a little early to be calling it for me. I'd like to wait for 4th Q PSP titles as well as some more detail on the 360.

DS platform of the year? Nah.. PSP Easily
Wipeout Pure + Lumines + Grand Theft Auto + Virtua Tennis + Hot Shots Golf + Ridge Racer + Burnout Legends = Platform of the Year.

Either way - Sony have ensured Nintendo bring out the big guns for the first PAL handheld xmas.

Wipeout Pure
Grand Theft Auto
Virtua Tennis
Hot Shots Golf
Ridge Racer
Burnout Legends

All of which can be summed up in seven words: been there, done that, bought the T-shirt. Seriously, the lack of interesting, original content on the PSP is downright disturbing. How many racing games can one platform have? At least Lumines is something new, so credit there.

To be honest, it's the Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS line-up that's interesting me the most in the lead-up to Christmas. There's just some far more interesting, original ideas on the DS: Nintendogs, Trauma Centre: Under The Knife, Meteos, Kirby's Power Paintbrush (or whatever the hell it's called now) and of course Advance Wars: Dual Strike, which is probably better than the entire PSP launch catalogue combined. Sorry Sony, but I know where my money will be going this Xmas, and it won't be on my PSP collection.

Mario kart
Metroid
Sonic

- Been there, done that icon_wink.gif

Uh, yea, but you're *conveniently* missing my point there Lukius. icon_razz.gif

See, whilst I know Nintendo are horrific for repackaging thier past, they do at least have some original content on their handheld. Once again, I point you to:

Nintendogs, Trauma Centre: Under The Knife, Meteos, Kirby's Power Paintbrush

And what original content is there on the PSP? Pre-cisely. Lumines and that really is it. C'mon, you can't honestly be arguing that PSP has a greater amount of original software!? icon_kero.gif
4 years ago
Metal Gear Ac!d

and don't forget: PSP Porn! icon_wink.gif

of those DS games, a grand total of NONE of those games appeal to me...

Nintendogs? i'd rather have a real dog... i didn't get Tamagotchi's several years ago... i don't get digital pets now
Trauma Centre? pfft, digital Operation...
Meteos? maybe... but given i don't like Rez, and i don't like Lumines, what's the point?
Kirby? nah
But but but Obs, they are original. And without original content, we'd be stuck in a perpetual hell of endless Burnout sequels and generic first-person shooters. This industry needs original products like any other, and the DS is supplying more of that than the PSP right now, largely due to it's unique design. Though I did forget to mention Mercury before...
i didn't say they weren't original, just they didn't appeal to me...

it's kinda moot arguing this (from my POV) since i'm still not planning on buying either unit for a while, if at all...

Almost all PSP games are new levels for games we already have.

Quote
Wipeout Pure, Grand Theft Auto, Hot Shots Golf, Burnout Legends, Ridge Racer
- you did notice three of those are racing games didn't you?

That dosn't mean anything about the platform - I still see it as a (only slightly) compomised portable PS2. It's great if you don't already have a PS2, or want your favourite games on an international flight, and money is no problem. But I can't see myself paying $90 each for Ridge Racer, GTA, HSGolf and Burnout - I already have several better versions of those games!

Now Lumines and Metal Gear Ac!d I'll give you.

Now for the 'been there' DS games, most add something signifigant to the property. I wouldn't give a rats about Mario Kart if it weren't for 16 player wireless multiplayer and 'easy as' online. I don't have broardband, but I can go to a uni or starbucks and play DS online (or PSP - are any games yet?)online - great for me!) same for online Animal Crossing.

Sonic, Castlevania Advance Wars: Dual Strike are a bit 'been there', but that's another facet - DS is getting strong traditional games too, maybe the best of their kind for years. I know of a guy waiting outside EB with a DS and a tube of superglue, so he can permanently stick Advance wars in his DS.

Kirby, Trauma Centre, Meteos and Nintendogs are the great totally new stuff. You don't have to like any of them, but they're still games that can't possibly be done on any other platform.
---------------------------------------------
This is fun! We should discuss stuff like this more often.

Anyway, the most fanboy part about me on this issue is that I've survived with the DS just on promises (and Yoshi!). Right now I personally believe that for joe schmo, neither DS or PSP are worth buying. The fun from both of them is just the fun of a new toy, and the games just show off the new toy, rather then do anything special. But by the year's end, I'll need the DS. Castlevania, Nintendogs, Kirby, Metroid Hunters and Meteos are calling.

It doesn't hurt that you'll be able to get a DS and all five of those games for about the same price a a PSP with just one game.

spot on IMO

i'll see what happens

Well, all I can say is that since the delay of Zelda, and the latest batch of info and screenshots re. DS stuffs, I really want to get a DS at the end of the year now!

We've seen NOA do a bundle with M64, now drop the price by $20, when will NOAus follow? Oh well, I got a DS on launch and Nintendogs comnig in 2 weeks, so I'm happy icon_biggrin.gif.

Yeah Nismo, I was wondering that too. I was under the impression AC: DS would launch around MK to have a strong WiFi community, but looks like an 06 release date icon_sad.gif.

icon_lol.gif That's great.

Great holiday line-up for sure. And in terms of DS better than PSP I would agree, mainly due to my likes and dislikes in video game genres.
