Nintendo may release USB WiFi adapter for DS and Revolution online

DS News | Nintendo in 'proactive approach to online gaming' shocker?
With the first DS software to have fully-fledged online play just around the corner, there's mounting speculation that Nintendo could soon be launching a branded WiFi adapter, allowing those of us without existing wireless network gear to go online with the handheld, and presumably with Revolution as well.

According to reports on industry website GamesIndustry.biz, a 'number of sources' in Australia have suggested that the device could become a reality well before Christmas, with one unnamed Nintendo representative saying, 'Basically, instead of an accessory that will let you go non-wireless, this accessory will make your current Internet connection compatible with WiFi. The adapter would simply plug into a USB port on the user's PC and would allow the DS and Revolution consoles to access their respective online services.'

Nintendo today refused to confirm whether there was any truth in the reports, though with the company stating they'd like to see 90 per cent of DS owners using the online service, we wouldn't be too surprised if it turned out to be true. More on this as we get it.

That's pretty much the smartest WiFi solution idea for the DS and Rev I've ever come across.

Well, Reggie did state at E3, in his press conference, that Nintendo DS can go online through a wireless router, or USB. So I'd believe that this is almost 100% true.

Finally seeing Nintendo going back to the online bussiness again. Can't wait to play Mario Kart & Advance Wars (I hope) online.

I'm 99.999% certain Advance Wars won't be online. At least, my Japanese version isn't. Obviously though, Mario Kart will be. Hurray! icon_smile.gif

Does anybody know if it's true that if you have a router conected to your computer that other people, living very close to your pc can hack into it?

I didn't think that was the case, but I've herd otherwise.

Only if it's unprotected. By using WEP or WPA encryption, the average person (IE: not using Linux and small amounts of clearicil) won't be able to freeload off of your internet connection.
