As the name suggests, Space Invaders Revolution is a remake of the vintage classic shoot-‘em up Space Invaders title, a game that every gamer should be familiar with.
Rising Star promises to deliver an all-new take on the series that will mark a true progression over previous versions before it. Players will be able to choose to play the game with either the directional pad or touch screen and stylus controls.
For the more experienced gamers, and those seeking more of a challenge, Space Invaders Revolution includes a ‘New Era’ mode that expands on the rules of Space Invaders and twists it into a modern game, including all-sorts of puzzle elements as well as other improvements to the tried, tried and tried yet again formula.
In addition, there will also be a ‘world tour’ mode that will enable players to battle wave after wave of ‘space’ invaders in locations around the globe, eventually taking on a climatic showdown with the UFO mother ship on the moon. Each location will be equipped with each of it’s own unique rules, which players must battle through three rounds to successfully defend that particular location before moving on to the next. In London, for example, players must shoot the invaders in a colour-coded order to defend Big Ben. At the Acropolis, Athens, the challenge comes in the form of a heavily armoured but lone invader, which takes several well-timed direct hits to kill.
Apart from the 20 different world locations, there's also an additional 60 levels to fight through, so it's understandable that players should have a helping hand from an array of useful power-ups, including protective shields, additional support craft, rapid-fire shots and column-clearing laser beams. In addition to this, each power-up can be used in a combination: using the support craft with the laser power-up results in three laser beams, decimating multiple waves of the invaders with every press of the fire button.
Rising Star is promising to release Space Invaders Revolution in PAL countries (Q3 2005) before it’s Japanese and American release, a precedent that Rising Star hopes to repeat with future releases.
