DS gets European Release Date

DS News | Confirmation on when the DS hits Europe.
Today Nintendo announced the Nintendo DS will be hitting stores in UK and Europe on March 11. It will sell for a RRP of roughly 99 pounds (roughly $240 AU) and 149.99 Euro (roughly $250 AU). At launch, 15 games are planned including Super Mario 64 DS, Polarium, WarioWare Touched! and Pokémon Dash plus a host of 3rd party titles such as Rayman DS (Ubisoft), Project Rub (SEGA), The URBZ: Sims in the City (EA) and Spider-Man 2 (Activision). Like North America and Australia, the DS will also be bundled with a playable demo version of Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt.

Europe is an extremely important market for Nintendo, and we are pleased we can offer such a short period of time between the US and European launch," Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo commented. "We believe that the Nintendo DS will change the way people play video games and our mission remains to expand the game play experience. Nintendo DS caters for the needs of all gamers whether for more dedicated gamers who want the real challenge they expect, or the more casual gamers who want quick, pick up and play fun.

This is certainly good news for European gamers, and with over 2.8 million units already sold throughout North America and Japan, we can also expect big things in Europe. Stay tunned to PALGN for upcoming coverage closer to the Australian release date.

£99 is pleasing. Good to see they're keeping it below the £100 mark icon_biggrin.gif
Launch titles are good too... icon_smile.gif

(Release date is a little disappointing though... "such a short period of time between the US and European launch"? Whatever icon_lol.gif I'll be quite surprised if the PSP launches in the UK four months after its US launch.)

(in case you didn't pick it, the box is the furthest thing from my mind when i buy a console... and in actuality, i don't really think much of that box...)

Yes, but there are plenty of casual gamers for whom the box is actually a large part of their decision to buy icon_lol.gif

Anyway, I like the box. icon_razz.gif
(It's not going to make me regret the extra couple of pounds I spent importing to get the DS three months early, though. icon_biggrin.gif)

Hell no! Infact, we didn't spend extra, did we? I know I paid £100 for my DS, £20 for 64 DS..

Anyway, nice to hear a date. Better go tell some friends..

Update:
Nintendo.co.uk confirms the price of UK DS games to be £29 or £19 "depending on the specific title". You can probably expect most franchised first-party and third-party games to retail for £29, then, with games like Polarium retailing for £19. icon_kero.gif

Polarium and Zoo Keeper really should release at £19. They're really addictive games that show off the DS's abilites really well, but I can't imagine many buying them at £30.
