Ace Attorney Investigations 2 not getting localised

DS News | Guess it's time to learn Japanese.
Like the Ace Attorney series? Bad news. While the news is a few days old, Ace Attorney fans in the west will likely be mortified by a recent 'Ask Capcom' Q&A, where Christian Svensson from Capcom shot down a question regarding the localisation of the upcoming game Ace Attorney Investigations 2, which has been released in Japan.

According to Svensson in the Q&A, "The answer is 'no.' Sorry about that."

Siliconera was able to get Svensson to elucidate on the statement, saying that "Regarding the question, plans change all the time so I would probably rather use the 'There are no plans for a Western release at the time of AAI2'."

A post on Capcom's forums last week from Svensson further clarifies the decision. "The costs of localisation are higher than the forecasted return. And no, it wouldn't sell more than Okamiden (which has already sold more than the first Investigations)," writes Svensson.

"Could this content show up on some other platform somewhere down the line? Possibly, but there's nothing on that front for me to talk about. I realise there are fans who would like to have this and I'll be sure to explore ways that could happen viably in the future with our strategy and R&D teams but no promises."

While this leaves the possibility of a localisation of Ace Attorney Investigations 2 open for the future, for now it seems English-speaking Ace Attorney fans have only the crossover Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright to look forward to, assuming that of course receives an English translation.

I find it interesting that he mentioned it appearing on another platform. Could we see a Wii port at some point? To be honest, while I'm sad, I'm not entirely surprised that this has happened. With the 3DS well and truly out around the world, Capcom will be putting their entire focus into supporting it. The DS is pretty much finished, like the PS2 before it. Games like Okamiden and Ghost Trick are the console's last hurrah. Game developers have to go where the money is.

Well I can understand it from the business point of view, but still....

ads, wouldn't it be more logical that we'd see a 3DS version instead of a Wii version?

True enough, it could go either way. I just thought of the Wii since the first three games in the series were ported to it, but a 3DS release would make a fair bit of sense.

This has just topped off a **** day. Terrible, terrible news.

why would they immediatly drop all support for DS games when they can be played naitivley on the 3DS?

I think it has more to do with Ghost Trick and the last miles edgeworth game not selling well.

I realise that ffggffgg66 is a spammer, but their name pretty much sums up my feelings about this. icon_sad.gif
