The latest installment will be a direct Sequel to the GBA’s Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. The story will be set in the year 2036 and continues from the original storyline. The game will retain it’s traditional 2D side-scrolling action and will contain all the classic gameplay elements that fans of the series have become adjusted to.
"The game's rich storyline and strong characters coupled with the adoption of the new technology in the Nintendo DS has allowed us to bring the series to a whole new level" says Hans-Joachim Amann, Head of Product Management of Konami of Europe. "By utilising the Nintendo DS' sophisticated capabilities such as the Dual Screen functionality and Touch Screen technology, we are able to bring a fresh new dimension to this title and provide a truly unique gameplay experience for the gamer."
The game will be set a year after Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, as Soma Cruz finds himself at the center of a mysterious cult’s plan to resurrect their evil lord and master, Dracula. Soma will once again finding himself infiltrating the enemy’s home base to mingle and destroy their plans of resurrection.
Castlevania DS will give gamers the opportunity to utilise the DS’s touchscreen features in a completely new and unique approach in boss battles – the magic seal system. You’ll be able to use the stylus on the screen to connect a series of symbols in the proper order to correctly entangle your enemys into a magical seal. If the order is incorrect, the boss will regain health and gamers will attempt to seal the boss again, until done so successfully.
The game will see the return of the collection of souls of enemies, which will allow Soma to gain their powers and enable him to learn new powerful attacks and skills. The new Castlevania for Nintendo DS takes advantage of the Nintendo DS' Wireless Connection, letting players exchange and/or trade acquired souls to enhance their characters' strength.
