Pokémon Black/White sell 1m in its first day

DS News | Apparently we really do want to catch them all.
These creatures may be old, but the Pokémon juggernaut shows no signs of slowing down with Nintendo releasing sales figures for Pokémon Black/White, the latest entries in Nintendo's creature-battling series, which has clocked up an impressive 1.08 million purchases in its first day on sale in the United States alone.

Nintendo marketing official Charlie Scibetta, was quick to applaud the figures which surpass the the 780,000 first day tally set by Pokémon Diamond/Pearl back in 2007, making Pokémon Black/White the fastest-selling Pokémon title in history.

"These sales numbers illustrate the continued strength of the Nintendo DS family of systems. Already established as the nation's best-selling video game platform of all time, the installed base of more than 47 million makes it the ideal hand-held for developers to reach a huge gaming-focused target audience."

Stay tuned for PALGN's thoughts on the series when our review of Pokémon White hits the site in the coming days.

1 million in the US not Japan, Monster Hunter doesn't get those sort of sales in the US.

In Japan they sold 2.68 million in the first 2 days compared to 1.972 million copies of Monster Hunter 3rd Portable in it's first week.

Yeah I know, it's in the US, but population wise (comparing US to Japan) it's quite amazing that the US game sale numbers don't compare.

Halo Reach managed 3.3 million but that took a month and I always figured Pokemon being as popular as it is would reach similar numbers.

It's pretty impressive for an almost yearly title now! Didn't the remakes of the orginal just come out?!

Fixed for if Uncharted 3 did the same thing.

Is that copies physically sold or shipped(to consumerS)? Or is it shipped(to retailers)? I can't imagine there being a lot of difference between the two (at least in this case), but I still think it's a worthy question.
