Nintendo DS sells over 3 million in Australia

DS News | Are you one of the three million?
Nintendo has announced today their smash hit handheld console, the Nintendo DS, has now sold over 3 million units in Australia alone. The console is now the nation’s best selling console since launch, and this year it was able to maintain this dominant position.

The original Nintendo DS was released in February 2005. This was followed by the launch of the Nintendo DS Lite in 2006, then the Nintendo DSi in 2009, which upgraded the system with a camera, SD card slot, and an online store. In 2010, Nintendo launched Nintendo DSi XL – with larger screens than ever before, plus pre-installed software and games. Some of the greatest hits on the platform include New Super Mario Bros., Rhythm Heaven, Pokemon, Ace Attorney and Professor Layton.

Next year, the Nintendo 3DS is looking to take over as the next big handheld, although time will only tell whether its sales will be as huge as its predecessor.

No, I'm four of them. 1 for me, 1 for the wife, 2 to replace those stolen =P

That's a hell lot of DS consoles though.

yes and it fucking crapped out on me.

Fuck you nintendo.

My launch model is still going strong, must be the whole camera + reduction in space dealio screwing up the reliability of the things.

Launch model in the hands of my niece and my Wii in the hands of my parents.. got sick of Nintendo Australia's broken promises.. hopefully the 3DS will change things..

I'm two of the 3 million, actually. I totally destroyed my original DS in a botched touch screen replacement.

Favorite console of all time, have 23 games for it (24 when Ghost Trick arrives), not including GBA games, and I sell any game that I don't truly love.

Brilliant, brilliant system. Everything that comes out on that thing is truly unique.

Uh....

Anyway wondering if that counts the DSi?

The DSi is a DS game now? Will pick that up soon. Can't wait to try out the virtual cameras!

EDIT: Ignore that piss-take. I just realised that my comment was rather ambiguous.

I was of course referring to the games, not the hardware components.

Two completley difference sentences there.

The uh was more talking about the amount of ports and remakes are on the DS. (Final Fantasy, Mario 64, New Super Mario Bros, etc etc)

The DSi thing is just wondering if the sales number counts the DSi or if that counts as a different system. The DSi is a piece of shit. Wish I'd just bought another lite when I lost my first one.

I know, but looking at my shelf that doesn't compose a whole lot of it. Compared to my PS3 and XBOX games where every single fame belongs to an established genre. You must admit that the DS has the most completely wacky and original games.

I'll swap ya my Lite for it? It's a fully pimped out modded one with a custom TWEWY shell and an aftermarket touch screen which has this smokey look and doesn't scratch (as much as the original) and I managed to cram a rewritable GBA cartridge into the Slot-2 protector. No? Oh. icon_razz.gif

haha, you can have my DSi with it's faulty L button that you need to press in the exact right spot to get it to recognize, broken spring in the SD card reader that wont hold the sd card in place and dodgy arse camera icon_razz.gif

That wasn't even from me fiddling with it, that's just from it being poorly made.

Hmmm...
Actually doesn't sound too bad. PM'd.

sorry man was joking icon_razz.gif

And no the SD card can't be read at all. The SD Card slot is pretty much useless now.

Pretty much, the SD card slot was the main reason I thought the DSi over the DS Lite, but yeah regrett that decision. Would tell anyone thinking of getting a DSi to stick with the lite. Never had any problems with that thing it was built like a fucking brick (Shame I left it on the train one day)

My lite got thrown around in my bag, dropped down stairs onto concrete, had drinks spilled on it etc and never had a problem. My DSi got that just from sitting in my bag on the train.

Oh well, you can always use your flash cart.

haha yeah, the mp3 player on my flash cart is better then the built in one on the DSi anyway. (Can't skip tracks without opening the DS on the DSi's one)

And it plays MP3s.

Surely that'd be bad for actually seeing anything on that screen!

Na, it's actually not bad, as long as the touch screen is on.

What the fuck was that Nintendo? Way to ignore the most common fucking file type.

I'm like 6.
2 original phats (one for me and one for my son)
4 lites (one for me, one for my son and one for my daughter and one still sealed on box for when my one eventually breaks)
I skipped the DSi due to region locking and will proberbly skip the launch 3DDs for the inevitable re-design that will come out a year later.

The DS is far and away my favourite console offering all the retro-game play you could want and innovation that you just couldn't get anywhere else thanks to the touch screen all in a portable device.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants a spare in case hers breaks >_< though I'm still on the lookout for a cheap one, missed out on the TRU clearance :'(
