Nintendo has admitted that the demand is much more than expected and that they don't have the capacity to meet this unexpected demand, despite plans to boost their output by outsourcing to China. A spokesman from Nintendo of Japan said “We have two sites up and running smoothly. We are now hurrying to get the third one going to ramp up output.”
Reports from Japan have confirmed that a small minority of Japanese retail stores have already stopped accepting pre-orders on Nintendo’s upcoming double-screen console, with many more stores expected to follow suit.
In addition, with the DS launch only a little over a week from it’s American launch, two of the largest video game stores have also stopped taking pre-orders on the console. Both Electronics Boutique and Gamestop have said that the overwhelming demand for the product has resulted in many of their stores exceeding their projected stock.
The demand for the upcoming console is building at an alarming rate and PALGN suggests that anyone wanting to import their console should do so fast, before online stores also stop taking pre-orders. If you pre-order the Nintendo DS from Lik-sang you will receive a $20 US Coupon for any future purchases. They are still accepting pre-orders. Check out the deal.
