The first, Harvest Moon: Frantic Farming, is being developed for the Nintendo DS and will take the series into a territory previously visited by Puzzle de Harvest Moon. You guessed it - the puzzle genre. The game looks like it will take a Puzzle Quest approach to its gameplay, with players required to match crops by their icons and colours in order to harvest them before they overgrow and take over the farm. Players will be able to choose from 12 different characters, each with their own unique ability and characteristics, giving the game some variety. Apart from the mandatory Story Mode, gamers can undertake quests in Mission Mode as well as aiming to obtain the high score in Score Attack.
The second game, Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley, will be a far more traditional affair and will be released for the PlayStation Portable. In this game, players will have to run their own farm as well as having to mine for ores and gems in order to save Leaf Village from destruction. As with previous Harvest Moon games, there is a heavy emphasis on socialising with the village's inhabitants as it is essential to earn their trust to gain their help in your quest.
