New Square-Enix game revealed

DS News | Here's a hint: Fantasy of the Final variety.
For a few days now we have closely monitored the Square-Enix countdown that recently appeared online. Initially it was garnered with only the words 'NEW GAME' and not a whole lot else, but gradually other elements have crept into the image, like a boy, a dragon, the number 4 and some new music.

As of time of writing, the countdown still has some ninety hours to go but you need wait no longer to find out exactly what Square-Enix are up to.

Japanese magazine Weekly Jump have spilled the beans: the game is titled Four Warriors of Light: Final Fantasy Gaiden and will appear on the Nintendo DS. Those who know their Final Fantasy lore will recall that the Four Warriors of Light were the protagonists of the original Final Fantasy game, but it's not clear yet how strong that connection might be. You can probably rule out a Final Fantasy remake, however, as indicated by Square-Enix's insistence on the phrase 'NEW GAME.'

You can check out the magazine scan from Weekly Jump, which features screenshots and the completed teaser artwork, in our media panel below.

Why can't SE news ever be related to FFXIII or Verses.

Why can't SE news be about something that isn't Final Fantasy?

Lately there's been a half decent amount of non-Final Fantasy game announcements and the like coming out of SE in the forms of the 3 new KH's, Nier, Dragon Quest 6, 9 and 10, Blood of Bahamut, Front Mission Evolved and Supreme Commander 2 (Had no clue they had anything to do with this at all and they're actually co-developing it).

Most of the info just doesn't get anywhere around here because everyone loves Final Fantasy too much to give a crap about the other stuff.

I haven't been able to find any Dragon Quest X news for ages, not just on this site.

I feel the need to reiterate my utter loathing for chibi polygons on the DS, because this also looks rather horrible much like most of the previous attempts on the platform.

I already said this in other forums. Before you know it, there will be a Final Fantasy L. (L = 50 for anyone who does not understand roman numerals.)

I'd probably be more happy with the company if they actually FINISHED one of the myriad of titles that are still in development rather than just adding even more to the long list.

It has some colour now, and some links. All in Japanese, though. Music seems louder, too. Some names are in Romaji, so you can see the names of some of the people working on the game.

The guess several people made here was correct. I would have preferred this to be on the PSP instead of the DS though. Oh well, I hope this turns out well anyways. I'm going to keep tabs as the days go by to see how much this ties in with the original Warriors of Light.
