Nintendo DS colour variations planned?

DS News | Don't give up hope on that spice orange DS just yet...
It's been suggested that Nintendo could launch their forthcoming handheld console, the Nintendo DS, in a selection of colours that vary from the standard black and silver design.

Discussing the subject with Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream, company spokesman Mitsuaki Hagishima revealed that, "There's nothing specific decided about the colouring, except that it will be two-toned. We released three colour variations when the GBA launched. We're still thinking about what colour variations of the DS to release, but while taking into consideration the production efficiency, we're thinking of releasing colours that are popular throughout the world, since it will be launched worldwide."

Hagishima-san - the big tease - also passed a comment concerning the unidentified square port that lies adjacent to the headphone socket on the base of the unit, stating that, "There's a little secret to this - it looks as though you can plug something in there, but the stylus pen is going to be connected to the back, so... we'll reveal more in the future."

Not that a variety of colours would surprise PALGN - after all, Nintendo has produced different coloured hardware for it's last three major console launches (the Gamecube, Gameboy Advance and Gameboy Advance SP all launched in a multitude of shades). Either way, we should know before Christmas, as long as the release of the handheld remains on schedule for a pre-Christmas launch in Japan and the US.

This was a given, considering Nintendo's past history with the GBA colours. They just better release the platinum one...
