Western DSi sales exceed 600k

DS News | Nintendo's bank account gets bigger.
At a Japanese press conference, Nintendo revealed that their somewhat-new handheld, the DSi, had managed to sell over 600,000 units in its first two days on sale in Europe and North America. Blimey.

The news came straight from head honchos Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto, who, understandably, were pleased with the figures.

As well as gloating about the success of their wonderful little new console, they also said that there wouldn't be any price cuts for the DS Lite or the Wii anytime soon, despite sales slowing over in the land of the rising sun.

Finally, Iwata and Miyamoto also suggested possible future uses for the DSi, such as museum maps, tour guides and could even be put to use in the classroom.

Well, anything with the Nintendo logo on it is going to sell well now isn't it!

Nintendo has always dominated the handheld scene and this time is no different, and with a new Zelda game coming (train or no train) its likely to move even more units.

This seems like a knee jerk reaction from Sony after the PSP3000 came out to virtually no fanfare while the 3rd DS got its expected hype. Hint Sony: Stop the knee jerk reactions and FIRE your PR staff, they are ruining your company's image.

More like, HIRE some staff. 5 PSP games a year is hardly a market for your handheld..

Looks like the DSi is going to be printing money just like the Wii. With that camera, I'm wondering if there are going to be games that support that camera. If so, I'm kind of afraid of the gimmicky games that can come out of it.
