The Great Giana Sisters heading to the DS

DS News | Yep, another classic revamped for the dual screen handheld.
DTP Entertainment has announced today that they’ll be reviving the classic Great Giana Sisters on the Nintendo DS in June next year.

For those who were a little young to remember, The Great Giana Sisters was a platformer that was originally released in 1987 on the Atari ST and Commodore 64. Unfortunately, the game was subsequently removed from shelves due to legal pressure from Nintendo. Looking at screenshots from the original game, it’s easy to see why. The enemies closely resemble Goombas, while the stats displayed look like they were taken directly from the original Mario Bros. on NES. At this stage not too much is known about the DS version, though DTP are promising there will be touch screen controls, microphone functionality and more than 80 levels to play through.

We’ll have more information on The Great Giana Sisters as it becomes available. Until then, you can check out some screenshots in the medial panel below.

Well that seems a little odd, taking the rip off directly to nintendo's machine, classic icon_lol.gif

yeah - suspect this one won't have the Nintendo Seal of Quality on the back hehe. I had this on my Amiga 500 back in the day.

Ahhh I used to love playing this game on my mates Amiga when I was young and even at that young age the names were changed Giana Sisters to Gina Sisters...

Brilliant! I'm surprised that Nintendo let this go ahead (although, I suppose, it hasn't passed submission yet...) - although it no longer looks like a carbon copy of SMB, so that'd help icon_smile.gif

Those screens look promising, hope this turns out well as I'd be happy for some more good 2D platformers on the DS.

Does anyone remember when Nintendo forced the Giana sisters off the shelves because it was too similar to SMB?

I hate remakes.
