DS to receive third Castlevania outing

DS News | Famitsu breaks the news.
Japanese gaming rag Famitsu has confirmed that there is indeed a third Nintendo DS Castlevania outing in the pipeline.

Apparently, all the characters in these scans state that producer of the first two DS Castlevania games, Koji Igarashi, is still involved with the new one, which is definitely a good thing in our book. In addition, there is also some sort of multiplayer option - but no idea how that works yet.

A trademark registration made last month suggests that the title could be Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, but Konami haven't said anything definitively.

The Castlevania series has been successful so far on the DS, with two rather good outings in Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin.

Cheers to former editor Chris for throwing this one our way.

Please don't be a Metroid-vania. They are good but I'm am sick of that formula, classic Castle' please.

The possible Wii Castlevania (and their rumored link-up) makes this sound a lot more interesting to me than it would be otherwise. The last DS Castlevania was good but I haven't finished it and, like most people, I just feel their growing stale even though each one is still (on it's own) a good game.

cool beans I hope they use some new assetts instead of re-using the ones from the last 3 games.

If you want classic, you'll have to go with virtual console, the screens in famitsu look very metroidvania. Metroidvania's are my personal secret shame, I play and enjoy all of them even though they are clones of each other icon_smile.gif

Castlevania will never go back to the old style, the gameplay while loved by some, is just too outdated and linear by today's standards.Like it or lump it, it's here to stay.

I got tired of the metroid vania style pretty quick - it was just cumbersome when you got stuck and had to explore the whole damn castle for one little thing that you might have forgotten.

It doesn't have to go back to the old style castle either. I think it should be something like Zelda 2 on the NES with an overworld and lots of different castles and towns.
