Tetris 3DS details and media

3DS News | Fitting into your daily schedule.
Not one to let a good thing go to waste, Tetris is indeed on the way to the Nintendo 3DS. Though the title has seen its fair share of mileage over the last couple of decades, this 3DS release promises to bring at least some new features to the table, and as always make use of the various 3DS gimmicks and features for a unique twist.

Detailed over at NeoGAF, Tetris fiends can look forward to over twenty Tetris themed game modes, including Marathon, Computer Battle, Fever, Survival, and party modes such as Stage Racer Plus, Shadow Wide, Jigsaw, Tower Climber, Capture, Fit, Bombliss, Sprint, and Master Mode. Some of these modes will be available in multiplayer, which spans from two to eight player local and download play, and two to six online play.

Tetris 3DS will make use of both the augmented reality and SpotPass features of the 3DS system. For the former, players can take Tetris into the real world in the modes 'AR Marathon' and 'AR Tower Climber', while the latter will allow players to "discover exciting new items". Items for what? We have no idea.

Developed by Hudson, Tetris 3DS is targeting an October release for the United States. We'll have word of a local release as soon as possible. In the meantime, check out the latest media gallery below, showing off a variety of modes including the two augmented reality games.

Why is there a bomberman?

It's being developed by Hudson, who hold the rights to Bomberman, so there's a clue. There's also a mode called Bombliss, so there's another clue.

Honestly, just give me regular old Tetris, I don't want any fancy variations. The only variation I've enjoyed almost as much as Tetris itself was Tetris: Blast on Gameboy. That actually added an extra layer of strategy in some ways.

The original Tetris on DS had some pretty cool modes, and the Nintendo themes and characters didn't really subtract from the experience. Holding out hope for this one but unlikely to buy another Tetris game unless it's somehow totally awesome.

Wouldn't mine Tetrisphere on 3DS, but then looking at the second image, it made me crave Picross 3DS...
