Pokédex 3D announced

3DS News | Gotta catch 'em all.
What Pokémon obsessed kid didn't dream of having their own portable Pokédex? Older generations might remember the Pokédex toy that had kids going wild, but what of newer generations? Well, new (and long standing) Pokémon fans will soon have a new Pokédex to play with. This time, however, it will be in 3D.

Announced over at Nintendo World Report, Nintendo has revealed Pokédex 3D for the Nintendo 3DS eShop. With a library of over 150 Pokémon, Pokédex 3D will allow fans to look up their favourites in 3D, checking out their moves and details. Integrating somewhat of a 'game' into the experience, the application will initially only show sixteen Pokémon. Players will be able to expand their library by using the Nintendo 3DS SpotPass feature to collect random Pokémon from nearby 3DS owners, trade with friends, and unlock Pokémon by scanning QR codes.

Not only will each Pokémon be viewable in 3D, but Pokédex 3D will make use of augmented reality, rendering selected Pokémon in conjunction with the 3DS camera, giving fans the chance to take photos with their favourites.

Though it is currently without a launch date, the 3DS eShop goes live next week, so hopefully we'll hear more then. As for the price? If the report is correct, Pokédex 3D will be absolutely free.

My assumption was that it would be the new Pokemon introduced in Black and White.

So then the tagline should be: Gotta catch over 150 of 'em.

This is still pretty bullshit, The Pokemon Company removed all the good "Pokedex" apps off from the Android and Apple Store markets, to replace it with this crap, no thank you.

right and why didnt they make one for the dsi in the first place. all the people who cant afford a 3ds just get shafted. man i thought nintendo was better than that. i love pokemon a lot but man you guys are really effing yourselves into a hole on this one.

They didnt make one for the DSi probably because they didnt need to. I find it hard to believe Nintendo whipped up all these art assets just for a free program. I'm guessing these assets are planned for the first 3DS Pokemon title.

This is basically advertising.

I was gonna say this thing looks pretty pointless, but the price is right, at least. Hopefully the fact it has 3D models is a good omen for Gen 6, when it's eventually released.
