Tales of the Abyss 3DS announced

3DS News | Stare into it. Go on. I dare ya.
It might not be the biggest news for the Tales fans out there, but NeoGAF has revealed that Namco intend to port Tales of the Abyss to the Nintendo 3DS.

Tales of the Abyss was the eighth mothership Tales title, and was released back in 2005 on the PlayStation 2. The 3DS remake is tentatively slated for a release in Japan sometime next year, with no word on an English localisation as of yet. You can view the first screenshots below.

*squeals like a little school girl

I hope they port all the PS2 Tales we never got. And hopefully Tales of Graces will see the light on Aussie shores (whether it be the original Wii version or the enhanced PS3 port).

Day 1 purchase for me.

Never got to play the PS tales games so I've only played Symphonia and Vesperia. If we see all the PS ones then FUCK YES!

Wonder if there's any chance of getting the PS re-releases of the Symphonia with the extra features.

I'm trying to remain rational here, even though this news is SO EXCITING! If they do happen to make an English version of the game, it will be region free, right?! It's a big "IF" though.

I loved the game, but I've only played through it once and I don't have it anymore, so I really miss it. I'd love this ... if it were to happen.

I'm just being wary, that's all.

THIS is one of my favourite RPGs ever!!!

It really is such a shame the Tales series never got much exposure apart from Symphonia (albeit Symphonia was definitely one of the strongest mothership titles out of the series.) Unfortunately, it really comes down to Namco-Bandai's poor advertising of the series, i.e. nonexistant. Even Vesperia just came out of nowhere.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe there have only been 3 Australian releases of mothership Tales games: Tales of Phantasia for the GBA (seriously, how many ports do we need of this game, its up to 6 or so now), Symphonia and Vesperia. We did get Symphonia: Dawn of the New World but that was an offshoot and the production values were low, due to it being made at the same time as Vesperia.

Real shame, considering how the core gameplay mechanic of the Tales series, the Linear Motion Battle System is such a joy to play.

I'm not sure how many enhanced ports or if the Narikiri Dungeons were released on the PSP, but in the rare case that I do see something Tales affiliated in stores, there is only 1 on the shelf and it is instantly gone on the same day.

YES YES YES YES YES now I don't have to get a PS2 and SwapMagic and track down a copy of Abyss! (actually I still have to get a PS2 and SwapMagic for my other NTSC PS2 games, but WHO CARES)

Just have to quote this part.

The tales games are the only JRPG's that I actually enjoy playing not just the storylines (barring terranigma on the Snes)

I played through symphonia in full 3 times, wich is more then I've done for... well any game I can think of.

I've... never played a Tales game. Shameful, I know. Do you need to start at the beginning, story-wise? Or is each it's own seperate story? I'm interested in getting into one of them, probably either Vesperia or Symphonies.

Its like Final Fantasy, all there own stories.

Symphonia is brilliant and a good place to start.

Wow. So the the 3Ds is already doing a lot to address concerns that Nintendo have abandoned their core gamer market! Bloody hell. What an awesome series of announcements!

Bah! Not only do I get to worry about whether they'll localise this game or not, I get to worry about what regions it'll be released in and whether the 3DS will be region-locked.

I'd feel more optimistic about our chances for this if it were announced for the PSP, but maybe, maybe the potential of a new handheld will work in our favour.

Oh my God. I need this console NOW. And a job...

Hopefully this gets an English release for those who have yet to play it.

I have no doubt that there will be more Tales games that will only be released in Japan on the 3DS, especially since none of the the DS ones have been released here (yes, Tales of the Tempest is pretty average, but the others rock the house).

Just means I'll have to buy a Japanese 3DS if there is region locking.

If it means more Tales games, I am willing to give you my money Nintendo/Namco. Take my money. Take it all.

Tales of the Abyss is proably my favourite Tales game (out of the 6 I've played). I'll pick this up if it gets an English release and some new features, otherwise I'll stick with the PS2 version.

Awww man, I just brought it for my NTSC ps3 that was B/C

But this is still awesome.

Also WarAdept, was Tales of Eternia ( Tales of Destiny 2 on the original psx) a mothership title or not cause we got a port of that

Yeah it was, now that's another game I need to track down in PAL.
