Introduction =============== Sometimes we all have somewhat insane ideas which just creep up on us unexpectedly. Some of us just leave these ideas alone, pushing them to the back of their minds, then some of us might actually go through with them. One must wonder how many of these insane ideas end up finished. My insane idea in this case is this guide. As it develops I've intended it to be somewhat like the Genesis Game Guide, Dreamcast Database and the Gameboy Cartridges list. I have a dream that every system should have a list of this magnitude for it, and there should be someone willing to do one, somewhere in the world. Who knows, if this one goes well, maybe I'll go back and cover another system. In its current form, this guide will attempt to serve as a reference for the games on the Nintendo Gamecube, and hopefully save people a lot of time in the future when they are trying to track down certain titles, etc. Of course, there will only be a basic analysis of each game, as I know how much a lot of you disagree with my opinions (as much as I appreciate your hate mail, I like letters which are legible). In the future, I plan to cover a bit about the history of the machine, and so forth, but as some people have done this for the time being, I'll focus on the games for now. June 10th, 2005 - Still going strong after three years. The guide is almost complete up to the current point in time, though updating is prooving harder and harder due to a more hectic real world existence. I still intend to keep the guide updated until the very last GC game comes off the presses. Please remember, the guide is still a significant work in progress. Many portions will be rewritten, scrapped, added, or changed before the guide reaches 1.0 status (despite GameFAQs listing it as 1.18). ================== 2. The Game List ================ ======= Numbers ======= ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: 007: Agent Under Fire see JAMES BOND: AGENT UNDER FIRE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: 007: Nightfire see JAMES BOND: NIGHTFIRE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: 1080 Avalanche Author/Vendor: Nintendo Software Technology/Nintendo Released: 11/28/2003 (PAL), 12/01/2003 (NA), 01/22/2004 (JPN) Type: Sports (snowboarding) Language: Various ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: 3 blocks Players: 1-4 Extras: 480p, 60Hz, DPL2, LAN Premise: 1080°: Avalanche brings its unique tradition of authentic 3-D snowboarding action to Nintendo GameCube. Game play satisfaction snowballs as players master snowboarding physics and an all-new trick system. Favorite boarders, such as the well-balanced Kensuke, the technical master Rob or the incredibly fast Dion, charge jumps, grab huge air and complete twisted combos. Watch out though, a potentially impressive stunt could lead to a board-breaking disaster. (Promo) Impressions: NST has done fairly well in taking this game to the Gamecube but it lacks some of the magic of the original, not to mention the fact that other snowboarding games, especially SSX 3 leave it behind. One for Nintendo enthusiasts only. Rating (1-10): 6 Comments: Was signficantly delayed for graphical and gameplay adjustments. Variations: Sequel to 1080 Snowboarding on the Nintendo 64. Known as 1080: Silver Storm in Japan ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: 18 Wheeler Pro Trucker Racing Author/Vendor: Sega/AM2/Acclaim Released: 02/20/2002 (NA), 05/31/2002 (PAL), 09/12/2002 (JPN) Type: Driving Language: English, Japanese ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: 3 Blocks Players: 1 Extras: 60Hz Premise: Join the convoy! AM2's off the wall arcade smash, 18-Wheeler American Pro Trucker is rambling to the Nintendo GameCube for one heck'uva pit stop! Get behind the wheel of a 60 foot long, 20 ton, 18-wheeled beast and buckle up as you haul tail from New York to California and everywhere in between in the most intense joyride of your life! 10-4 good buddy - Over and out! (Promo) Impressions: The game isn't bad as it offers a nice arcade gaming experience. The feeling of being behind an 18 wheeler seems to be spot on, but it's not the same as the arcade version, which had an actual 18 wheeler cabin set-up. Multiplayer is probably the game's best feature as single player mode can be finished in 20 mins. Definitely a rental at best (mrcivic) Rating (1-10): 5 Variations: Started life in the arcade, ported to Dreamcast (?), PS2, Xbox. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: 2002 FIFA World Cup Soccer see FIFA WORLD CUP 2002 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: 4x4 Evolution 2 Author/Vendor: Terminal Reality/Universal Interactive Released: 09/10/2002 (NA) Type: Racing Language: English ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: 3 blocks Players: 1-2 Extras: None Premise: 4x4 EVO 2 offers the most intense off-road racing action to date on the Nintendo GameCube. Take the wheel of a mighty 4x4 machine and let loose on incredibly massive, detailed tracks. Build the baddest race truck the world has ever seen and claw your way to the front of the pack...by any means necessary. (Promo) Impressions: The original 4x4 Evolution was a passable title, but this version doesn't improve much on the original, which has since been superceded. Not really worth a look. Rating (1-10): 4 Comments: No PAL release planned Variations: Original game was on the Dreamcast. Xbox and PS2 versions exist. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ = A = ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Ace Golf see SWINGERZ GOLF ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Adventure Island see HUDSON SELECTION VOL 4 TAKAHASHI MEIJIN NO DAIBOUKENJIMA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Adventures of Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius: Attack of the Twonkies, The Author/Vendor: THQ Released: 09/13/2004 (NA) Type: Action Language: English ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: 4 blocks Players: 1 Extras: None Premise: After a horrific encounter with an abominable, six foot space beast, Jimmy returns from an excavation on the Twonkus-3 comet with a small furry creature burrowed in his soil samples. The Twonky is an immediate hit, especially after it coughs up a dozen more identical colorful creatures just like it. In the presence of music, these dream pets morph into violent and wild monsters and proceed to tear the town apart. Now it’s up to Jimmy to gather up the Twonkies before the Twonkus-3 comet leaves earth’s orbit and Retroville is stuck with the menacing varmints. (Movie Promo) Impressions: Another horribly generic Nickelodeon license based platformer. While some of these titles have the strength of the license to bank on, Jimmy Neutron has always been a weak show, and the game follows suit. You might be able to salvage something if you enjoyed the first two games, but in that case, you'd probably be delusional to begin with. Rating (1-10): 4 Comments: Timed for release with a TV Movie of the same name. Released at budget price of $US19.99. Variations: Sequel to Jimmy Neutron: Jet Fusion. Also on the PS2 and GBA. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Agent Under Fire see JAMES BOND: AGENT UNDER FIRE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Aggressive Inline Author/Vendor: Z-Axis/Acclaim Released: 08/06/2002 (NA), 09/06/2002 (PAL) Type: Sports (inline) Language: English ESRB Rating: T Memory Card: 57 Blocks Players: 1-2 Extras: 480p Premise: Aggressive Inline is the first Inline Skating game for any next generation console. Aggressive Inline is the only title to feature the founding father of Inline Skating, Chris Edwards and the 2001 X-Games Inline Vert Champion, Taig Khris in addition to 8 other pro-inline skaters. (Promo) Impressions: The game still has an awful lot to offer, despite its frustrating controls. There is plenty of exploring to be done, tricks to be hit, and characters to be unlocked. The game won’t last you forever, but unlocking everything will take a damn long time, and you will have a ball doing it. If you are after an extreme sports game that doesn’t feature a skateboard, than this is one game that you should definitely check out. Recommended. (crusen) Rating (1-10): 8 Variations: Also on the PS2 and the Xbox. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Alien Hominid Author/Vendor: The Behemoth/O~3 Entertainment Released: 10/19/2004 (NA) Type: Action Language: English ESRB Rating: T Memory Card: 8 blocks Players: 1-2 Extras: 480p Premise: Once a popular Flash game available over the Internet, Alien Hominid proved popular enough to bring home to the consoles. New levels, enemies, bosses and weapons await. Impressions: Excellent little side scrolling shooter - might make one feel rather nostalgic, longing for the days of gameplay over graphics. Top notch presentation and a wicked sense of humour make Alien Hominid one of the best independent games on the Gamecube. Rating (1-10): 8 Comments: Started off as a Flash game on Newgrounds (?). No PAL release. Variations: Also on the PS2, Xbox. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: All Star Baseball 2002 Author/Vendor: Acclaim Studios Austin/Acclaim Released: 11/14/2001 (NA) Type: Sports (baseball) Language: English ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: Max 49 Blocks Players: 1-4 Extras: None Premise: Marketed behind 4-Time World Series Champion and New York Yankee Shortstop, Derek Jeter, All-Star Baseball 2002 brings to the Gamecube its fantastic double play combination of superior game-play and outstanding graphics. In fact, the All-Star Baseball franchise is so strong, it has the distinction of being selected twice as Baseball Game Of The Year! (Promo) Impressions: A quick port of an otherwise decent baseball game. Some players might not like the more sim-oriented approach - MLB Slugfest might come better recommended to them. Rating (1-10): 6 Comments: Ported from the PS2 version. No PAL release. Variations: All Star Baseball 98-2001 (N64). ASB 2002 (PS2). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: All Star Baseball 2003 Author/Vendor: Acclaim Studios Austin/Acclaim Released: 02/26/2002 (NA), 08/08/2002 (JPN) Type: Sports (baseball) Language: English, Japanese ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: Max 153 blocks Players: 1-4 Extras: None Premise: All-Star Baseball 2003 combines true-to-life graphics with superior gameplay to create the most exciting baseball experience for any fan. Featuring Derek Jeter, four-time World Series Champion, All-Star Baseball 2003 is the only baseball game available this year on all next generation hardware systems. (Promo) Impressions: The yearly update of the ASB franchise. Not really worth it to those who bought ASB 2002, as the differences are virtually negligible. A must for sim baseball fans. Rating (1-10): 6 Comments: Yearly update of ASB series. One mode takes up more room on a memory card than what was currently available at the time of its release. Possibly ported from the PS2 version again. No PAL release. Variations: ASB 2002 released only 3 months earlier. Also on Xbox, PS2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: All Star Baseball 2004 Author/Vendor: Acclaim Studios Austin/Acclaim Released: 02/28/2003 (NA) Type: Sports (baseball) Language: English ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: 240 blocks Players: 1-4 Extras: DPL2, GBA/GCN Premise: The #1 baseball game just got better! Like Derek Jeter, All-Star Baseball 2004 is the game "with all the tools." With the most realistic simulation ever, easier to play functionality, and the same all around skill set that makes Derek the leader and winner he is, ASB 2004 truly is the game with all the tools. (Promo) Impressions: Retains the sim functionality that has been present throughout the series, but adds a few easier play options, making it more open to those newer to the series, while still pleasing the core audience. Rating (1-10): 7 Comments: No PAL release. Final ASB release for Gamecube. Variations: Yearly update of the ASB franchise. Also on PS2 and Xbox. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Amazing Island Author/Vendor: Sega Released: 01/15/2004 (JPN), 08/25/2004 (NA) Type: Simulation Language: Japanese ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: 13 Blocks Players: 1-2 Extras: GBA/GCN Premise: Attempt to raise a special Kaiju creature in order to protect the Island of the Kaiju from the evil Black Evil who attempts the heinous crime of controlling the island. The main focus of the game seems to be its Kaiju Editor, which allows you to quickly create a completely unique Kaijuu. The game starts by asking you a series of multiple-choice questions such as "What's the best part of going on a trip?" Based on your responses, you receive an initial Kaijuu which can be modified to your liking, by selecting pre-set parts and actually stepping in to fine tune things using a digital pen. (IGN) Impressions: Create a special creature to your liking, and then raise it so that it can prevent the island from falling into the clutches of evil. High potential, but falls so far short that you wonder what the hell is going on at Sega HQ. Rating (1-10): 4 Variations: Known as Kaiju no Shima: Amazing Island in Japan. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: American Chopper: Full Throttle Author/Vendor: Creat Studio/Activision Value Released: 11/29/2005 (NA) Type: Racing Language: English ESRB Rating: T Memory Card: 1 block Players: 1 Extras: DPL Premise: Be hired into the shop of the hit tv series American Chopper. Here's your chance to create, build and ride the bikes featured on American Chopper. Experience firsthand all the hardwork, drama and thrill of creating the most sought after bikes in the world! (Promo) Impressions: These TV show games are never any good, especially ones based on reality shows, so it should be no surprise that American Chopper is boring, ugly and complete tosh. Extra point for the big moustache. Rating (1-10): 3 Variations: Also on PS2, Xbox. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Animal Crossing Author/Vendor: Nintendo Released: 12/14/2001 (JPN), 09/16/2002 (US), 10/17/2003 (PAL-AU) Type: Communication Language: Japanese, English ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: 57 Blocks Players: 1-4 Extras: 480p, GBA/GCN, e-Reader Premise: Step into the world of Animal Crossing, where villagers live their everyday lives in time with an actual 24-hour clock. To become a part of the thriving village community, you’ll get a job, buy a house and interact with other villagers, some of which can be controlled by friends and family. As you collect furnishings for your own house, check out what other villagers have collected for their houses. Build relationships by talking to other villagers, helping them with tasks and writing letters back and forth. Throughout the game, you’ll collect an assortment of items and artifacts and different plants and animals. To ensure it will be a desirable place for people to live, help to keep your village beautiful. (Promo) Impressions: It's a great little game. It is designed in a way that you won't play for great amounts of time at once, but rather play for a few minutes a day. Highly addictive, too. Hopefully Nintendo will release the sequel outside of Japan. Rating (1-10): 9 Comments: Enhanced port of the Nintendo 64 original. Uses the E-Card Reader. Includes a Memory Card 59. Variations: Japanese name is Doubutsu no Mori +. The American version goes by the name of Animal Crossing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Animal Leader see DOUBUTSU BANCHOU ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Animaniacs: The Great Edgar Hunt Author/Vendor: Warthog PLC/Ignition Entertainment Released: 05/27/2005 (PAL), 09/18/2005 (NA) Type: Platformer Language: English ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: 3 blocks Players: 1 Extras: None Premise: Find and collect all forty-five stolen Edgars. Control Wakko, Yakko or Dot, each with special abilities and moves, and battle mad-cap enemies, solve dastardly riddles and play mini games against Pinky and the Brain to conquer this wacky cartoon game. (Promo) Impressions: Outdated graphics, sound and gameplay make Animaniacs an absolute chore for anyone over the age of five. Pity they can't do justice to what was a really great cartoon. Rating (1-10): 3 Variations: Also on Xbox. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis Author/Vendor: TDK Mediactive Released: 07/23/2003 (NA) Type: Action Language: English ESRB Rating: T Memory Card: 1 block Players: 1 Extras: None Premise: Aquaman defends the deep-sea city of Atlantis against three of his most infamous arch-enemies, including the Lava Lord and Black Manta. Comic book and video game fans alike will jump at the chance to wield Aquaman's legendary super powers and cybernetic morphing hook hand against these seemingly invincible villains and their armies. Expect to get wet with Aquaman.(Promo) Impressions: The superhero only has a small core following, so one has to wonder why you'd release this on a console with only a core fanbase. It's a bloody awful game in general, and fails to stand up next to much better comic conversions. Rating (1-10): 2 Variations: Also on PS2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Archer McLean's Pool Paradise see POOL PARADISE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Army Men: Air Combat - The Elite Missions Author/Vendor: 3DO Released: 03/26/2003 (NA) Type: Action Language: English ESRB Rating: T Memory Card: 6 blocks Players: 1-2 Extras: None Premise: Army Men makes its debut on the Nintendo GameCube system with the exciting helicopter action of Air Combat "The Elite Missions". The Army Men brand is a perfect match with the Nintendo GameCube system consumers! Army Men Air Combat: The Elite Missions is a fast and furious game of toy helicopter-based combat set in the Army Men universe. It combines the trigger-twitching action of shooter-style gameplay with more strategic environment interaction via the winch mechanic. Continuing the classic struggle between the Green and Tan Armies, the heroic Captain Blade and his Alpha Wolf Squadron once again take to the skies with an onslaught of missions, incredible helicopter physics, deep gameplay, stunning cinematics and exciting character interaction. Real Combat. Plastic Men. (Promo) Impressions: A really quick, poor port of the Nintendo 64 version of Army Men: Air Combat, which was also a really poor game. If you need proof as to why 3DO is dead, look no further. Rating (1-10): 3 Variations: Sequel to Army Men: Air Combat ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Army Men RTS Author/Vendor: Pandemic Studios/3DO/GlobalStar Software Released: 11/02/2004 (NA) Type: Real Time Strategy Language: English ESRB Rating: T Memory Card: 3 blocks Players: 1 Extras: None Premise: Build and manage an army of plastic soldiers as you lead Sarge and his Green Army against Colonel Blitz and a band of Tan Army traitors. In an ode to the war epic Apocalypse Now, a deranged colonel has formed his own army and you are called on to bring them back into the fold. The off-beat humor of the Army Men series shows up early as Colonel Blitz loses his mind quite literally when his head is emptied by a battle injury. Impressions: The best of the Army Men games, but that isn't saying much. Belated port of the 2002 PS2/PC title of the same name does nothing to advance the genre, but at the same time, is the only Army Men game released that contains some sort of playability. Rating (1-10): 5 Comments: Originally cancelled, but brought back into development. Variations: Also on PS2, PC. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Army Men: Sarge's War Author/Vendor: 3DO/Global Star Software Released: 08/21/2004 (NA) Type: Action Language: English ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: 3 blocks Players: 1 Extras: DPL2 Premise: Army Men: Sarge's War follows the exploits of Sarge, now an army of one. The Tan Army has unleashed a weapon of unimaginable destruction on the Green Army, reducing Sarge's platoon to a pile of melted plastic. Players will take control of Sarge as he goes renegade to avenge the death of his squad. Army Men: Sarge's War is harder edged than previous Sarge's Heroes titles, with more emphasis on combat tactics, advanced AI, thrilling destruction effects, and fast-paced, action-packed firefights. Impressions: Sarge, the only object with a chin to rival that of Jay Leno, returns in yet another drab, uninspired Army Men sequel that will make you question your faith in humanity. Avoid at all costs. Rating (1-10): 3 Comments: Released as a budget title by GlobalStar Software, who acquired the license from the bankrupt 3DO. Variations: Also on PS2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Asterix and Obelix XXL Author/Vendor: Etranges Libellules/Atari Released: 07/09/2004 (NA), 08/2004 (PAL) Type: Action Language: English ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: 5 blocks Players: 1 Extras: None Premise: New game based around the Asterix the Gaul and his adventures in fighting off the invading Roman army. Based on the comic that pretty much pre-dates the birth of anyone reading this document. Impressions: Pretty standard action romp where the player can choose between Asterix and his pal Obelix and take the Roman army head on. Not as good as the 8 and 16-bit games we saw on the Sega consoles a decade ago, but it could have been a lot worse. Rating (1-10): 5 Variations: Also on PS2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Atsumare!! Made in Wario see WARIO WARE INC.: MEGA PARTY GAME$ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: ATV Quad Power Racing 2 Author/Vendor: Climax Studios/Acclaim Released: 01/22/2003 (NA), 3/2003 (PAL) Type: Sports (racing) Language: English ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: 9 blocks Players: 1-2 Extras: None Premise: ATV: Quad Power Racing 2 is all about big tricks, big boots to the face and big finishes. It's arcade ATV racing like you always wanted it to be. ATV Quad Power Racing 2 combines 10 of the top pro riders in the world and 40+ real-life sponsors with the fast, edge of your seat, arcade gameplay the fans of the original know and love. (Promo) Impressions: Might be attractive to those who are into the sport, but Sony's ATV Offroad Fury is said to be a far better game in comparison. Avoid, unless you absolutely love the sport. Rating (1-10): 4 Variations: Also on PS2, Xbox ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Auto Modellista Author/Vendor: Capcom Released: 07/03/2003 (JPN), 09/30/2003 (NA) Type: Racing Language: English, Japanese ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: 19 blocks Players: 1-4 Extras: 480p Premise: Designed to capture the essence of the racing experience, Auto Modellista allows you to customize real-world cars from the get-go and acquire essential components to soup-up your ride. Licenses from world-renowned carmakers including Mazda, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Subaru offer the ultimate realism. (Promo) Impressions: It's almost as if Capcom focused so much on the cel-shaded graphics that they forgot to include a playable game. Impressions: Not surprising that a bad movie has a bad videogame based on it. Arrived about a year or two too late to be relevant to the release of the movie, and awful graphics, sound and gameplay make it a great example of how not to develop a videogame. Cards are actually a central part of the story as well, as they are holders for "Magnus" which is short for "Magna Essence." Magnus is the true nature of all things throughout the world, including swords, magic spells and even apples that are gathered in the town in which your adventures start out. A real item can be turned into Magnus form and stored in a blank card. It can then be taken out from the card and will turn back into real form. (IGN) Impressions: It's a card RPG, but not your typical card RPG. You see, you play as the main character's conscience, and inform him of what to do throughout the game. The battles do follow standard RPG conventions however, so don't get too excited. Due to the high level of Japanese knowledge required to play the game, I recommend waiting until the English release in late 2004. Battle immense Frost Giants, brutal Dragons and hordes of other Dungeons & Dragons creatures. Use your wits, battle fiercely and emerge victorious! (Promo) Impressions: This one is damn good. While the port doesnt really get anything extra in the one year it took to make it over to the Gamecube, the great gameplay remains intact. It looks great, sounds great, and plays very well, especially in co- op, but it suffers a little in the lastability stakes. Rating (1-10): 8 Comments: Originally developed for the PS2. Impressions: If you're Japanese and you love baseball, this is pretty much the only option you've got. The TV presentation looks nice for the most part, and there's a decent enough baseball game in there, it's just that it doesn't offer the variety of game modes seen in western releases such as MVP Baseball and All Star Baseball. It's not too import friendly, but I'm sure some people could manage to at least make their way through the menus into a game. From an ancient Himalayan monastery to stately Wayne Manor to the halls of Arkham Asylum, embrace the darkness in this thrilling interactive companion to director Christopher Nolan's (Memento) gritty reinvention of the Dark Knight. (promo) Impressions: Pretty graphics, scores of Hollywood talent, but Eurocom failed to include anything remotely close to challenging in the game. Players take to the battlefield with dozens of soldiers, organizing them into small squads and directing them into the fray. While you can only command a small number of soldiers at a time, the ones not under your direct control don't just stand at ease-- they'll respond to enemy attacks and protect any areas to which they've been deployed. Give the orders, and your soldiers will follow behind you wherever you lead or attack the targets you select. (Promo) Impressions: While not up to the usual standard of Nintendo's Wars series, Kuju did pull their finger out and delivered their finest game to date. Rating (1-10): 7 Comments: PAL release was thought to have been cancelled at one point, but has been delayed for 3 months due to Sony exclusivity. Impressions: Normally I'd be very hard on a Mario Party clone, but due to the fact that Hudson made both Mario Party and this game, this one has turned out pretty well. Huge single player game, over 80 minigames, a kart racing mode and most importantly, a classic but highly customisable Bomberman deathmatch mode, which probably makes it the most worthwhile Bomberman game on the system. Pity they won't release it outside of Japan. Fans will be immersed in the Bratz World as they embark on a series of voyages in search of intriguing stories to inspire and create their very own fashion magazine. (promo) Impressions: Erm..as an adult male, I can't say I'm exactly up to date on what the sod Bratz are - to me they just look like Barbie dolls who went overboard with the collagen. Apparently, the game is meant to be alright - a bit like the Sims with more emphasis on fashion. Not really meant for anyone other than girls under the age of 14, and even then, who wants their child to aspire to be a fashion obsessed rock groupie? Rating (1-10): 6 Comments: Another Bratz game called Formal Funk was planned and canned prior to the release of Rock Angels. Developed as a lost episode from the show, the original story begins when Buffy and friends discover a dreaded enemy from the past is at the center of a great struggle with The First- the ultimate incarnation of evil. They must face an undead army of terrifying vampires, zombies, and demons to keep these hellions from casting the world into permanent darkness. (Promo) Impressions: Chaos Bleeds could have used several more levels and perhaps a little bit more polishing. As it stands though, this game is one of the better action games you'll find out there. If you're a fan Buffy, then you should most definitely purchase this game. It captures the best aspects of the television show, and backs it up with a thoroughly entertaining gaming experience that you'll play through several times. For everyone else, Chaos Bleeds is best severed as a rental. (crusen) Rating (1-10): 6 Comments: The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer was developed by The Collective and was exclusive to the Xbox. Every animal featured is a true-to-life representation specific to the region you are hunting. Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2005 Adventures takes the very best of previous Cabela's titles to re-create the true hunting experience. Watch as the terrain is affected by weather, seasonal changes and time of day changes. What was familiar in one season may be drastically different when experienced in another. Plus, go head-to-head with other hunters to claim bragging rights to the highest scores. Impressions: If you're from the Red states and are a card carrying member of the NRA, this game might interest you. Then again, it's more enjoyable going outdoors and doing the real thing. It's just lucky that these Cabela hunting titles aren't as bad as the deplorable Deer Hunter games that have been flowing like shit from a broken sewer pipe since the late 90's. (Promo) Impressions: More World War II games - they'll never get sick of pumping them out, and for some reason, people still keep buying them. If you've not had enough of shooting Nazis yet, by all means give it a go, but your time could easily be better spent playing far better games. No multiplayer is bizarre. It's not your standard soccer title either - in fact, it really plays a lot like a turn based RPG, much like some of Tecmo's earlier soccer efforts. Many of the world's most famous warriors have joined and the public is crazy with anticipation. Join 44 brawlers from Capcom's legendary Street Fighter and SNK's world renowned King of Fighters series as they fight for universal domination. This is the ultimate collision of strength and power. (Promo) Impressions: We all know that the Gamecube has a shortage of fighting games, but sometimes another game isn't always a good thing. EO mode makes the game far too easy, and the game is pretty awful with the standard controller, making the HORI pad your only real option for playing this game, and that's not good for ratings. The game itself is fine - just on the verge of being impossible to control. Rating (1-10): 3 Comments: I thought the EO meant Easy Operation? Variations: Also on Xbox. Given the nature of the game, it's fairly import friendly too, which is a bonus, because I can guarentee that we won't see it over here. Use fast-action martial arts techniques to defeat the opposition, and switch between any of the three Angels “on-the-fly” to accomplish impossible tasks. (Promo) Impressions: Ubi Soft is a funny company. On one hand, they have teams making games like Splinter Cell, Beyond Good and Evil and Prince of Persia, and on the other hand, they have teams making awful, uninspired, unplayable crap like Charlie's Angels. Perhaps the worst graphics on the console combined with poor gameplay - avoid at all costs. Rating (1-10): 1 Comments: Released with the movie Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. Then save the chocolate factory from their destruction by solving mystifying puzzles and using inventive candy powers. By helping the Oompa-Loompas and restoring order to the factory, Charlie can earn the respect of Willy Wonka and win an unexpected prize! In this inventive, story-driven game, players guide a miniature robot as he completes chores and clashes with enemies in his epic quest to become the highest-ranked Chibi-Robo out there. Impressions: One of those quirky, but refreshing and somewhat innovative titles that the import gangs love to rave about. Chibi Robo lets you take control over a little robot, and has you doing all sorts of little tasks to help your family. Might sound a bit dull, but it really is fun. Rocket jet packs, slingshots and hover boards get you out of sticky situations like alien invasions, spiraling asteroids, and corn field mazes. Saving the day takes an arsenal of gadgets, friends and hero power! (Promo) Impressions: Harmless CG-talking animal picture becomes children's video game - who'd have thunk it. In order to end this frigid captivity and free his people, the mighty lion Aslan, true ruler of Narnia, invokes an ancient prophecy. Also on the Xbox. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Crash Tag Team Racing Author/Vendor: Radical Entertainment/Vivendi Released: 10/19/2005 (NA), 11/11/2005 (PAL), 12/01/2005 (JPN) Type: Racing/Platform Language: English ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: 2 blocks Players: 1-2 Extras: None Premise: Cortex hatches an evil, overly-complex plan to challenge Crash to a seemingly-friendly race at a condemned theme park...with plans of destroying the hapless bandicoot once and for all. (Promo) Impressions: Take Crash: Nitro Kart, add in platformer bits, and Bob's your uncle - the first racer with platform bits (as opposed to the rather common platformer with racer bits). Not bad but neither portion of the game is remarkable. Rating (1-10): 5 Variations: Knwon as Crash Bandicoot: Gacchanko World in Japan. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Crash: Nitro Kart Author/Vendor: Vicarious Visions/Vivendi Released: 11/11/2003 (NA), 11/28/2003 (PAL) Type: Racing Language: English ESRB Rating: E Memory Card: 70 blocks Players: 1-4 Extras: DPL2, GBA/GCN Premise: Crash hits the track in his most fast-paced adventure yet - Crash Nitro Kart! Kidnapped by the ruthless Emperor Velo and forced to race in his galactic coliseum, Crash must race his way to victory in order to save the Earth from destruction - but it won't be easy, as he must compete against foes both old and new before a final showdown with Velo himself! Crash Nitro Kart leads the pack by mixing awesome next-gen graphics and gameplay with the playability and fun of classic kart-racing games. (Promo) Impressions: Crash Nitro Kart is a huge disappointment. It is inevitable to draw conclusions to Crash Team Racing and the fact the game was on an older console and is still better is telling. If you are a huge fan of the previous game then hire this game, it won't take very long to complete. Crash Nitro Kart is let down by some disappointing factors. Track design is lackluster and familiar and it always feels like you are in a slow state. So get a grip on the wheel, sharpen your senses, and don't lose your cool. (Promo) Impressions: Sounds like a dull concept, but this game is such fun to play. Although its showing its age, and the Gamecube version has NO enhancements or extras whatsoever, the game is still okay. From the moment the game begins, your creature is on its own to fend for its life. As your animal instincts take over, you will boldly traverse hostile environments, savagely stalking your prey and asserting your place in the animal chain of power. Will you have what it takes to become the new king of the beasts? (Promo) Impressions: Not exactly your every day videogame. Start off as a block, eat other creatures and morph into all sorts of weird crap. Hardly a great game, but interesting. Rating (1-10): 5 Comments: Nintendo didn't wish to take the risk of releasing the game in the USA, but Atlus jumped at the chance. One day, the hero and his comrades learn of an incredibly strong robot with autonomous maneuvering capabilities. In their search for a logical explanation regarding the existence of this powerful foe, the hero and his comrades uncover a secret about an event that occurred on this planet several hundred years ago Impressions: The idea is great - build your own robots out of various spare parts, and go head to head with your friends. Unfortunately, the game suffers from pretty hazardous controls - enough to cripple most people's enjoyment of the title. Rating (1-10): 5 Comments: The first Custom Robo title to be released outside of Japan. So dangerous it's considered insane by most, DAKAR 2: the World's Ultimate Rally, is revved up to rollover the Nintendo GameCube! Choose from a vehicular arsenal of fully licensed trucks, cars and motorcycles and then wage motorized war against man, machine and nature itself! (Promo) Impressions: Yet another dire rally game - it's proving to be an area in which the Gamecube lineup is really lacking. Better than the original - pretty much impossible to be worse. Someone has stolen the Music Keys and released the music they held. Mario must recover the keys before the unstable power of music destroys the entire Mushroom Kingdom! The path to the keys is simple: Left, Right, Up, Down, Right, Down...(Promo) Impressions: Some may argue that Mario has become a little overexposed towards the end of the GameCube's lifespan, but as long as the quality keeps up, who's to complain? DDR: Mario Mix is a pretty fresh experience intended for those of us who've not played DDR before - DDR nutcases and purists will blitz through it in an afternoon, but the rest of us should have a bit of fun with it. Rating (1-10): 7 Comments: Recalled in late 2005 due to manufacturing errors with the dance mat - supposed to be re-issued in early 2006. Variations: Known as DDR with Mario in Japan and Dancing Stage: Mario Mix in PAL territories. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Darkened Skye Author/Vendor: Merscom Released: 11/12/2002 (NA), 03/31/2003 (PAL) Type: Adventure Language: English ESRB Rating: T Memory Card: 6 blocks Players: 1 Extras: 480p Premise: Fantasy action game featuring a level-based, third-person-shooter style of design which weaves combat, magic and a rich story line around several of the popular and enigmatic Skittles: Taste the Rainbow fantasy television commercials. Beautiful, high fantasy style, a serious quest, and a fresh, funny irreverent tone. (Promo) Impressions: Dumb adventure game with moronic humour that only dopey teenage boys will find funny. Play mechanics aren't up to scratch, and the fact of the matter is that you can do a lot better on this system for a lot cheaper. Rating (1-10): 3 Variations: Also on PC. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Dark Summit Author/Vendor: Radical Entertainment/THQ Released: 02/06/2002 (NA), TBA (PAL) Type: Sports Language: English ESRB Rating: T Memory Card: 4 Blocks Players: 1 Extras: None Premise: Shred, jib and stomp sick tricks in the first ever mission-based snowboarding game. Free ride this vast mountain and earn reputation points to boost your status and unlock restricted areas on your way to the summit. But, be prepared, Chief O'Leary will not go down without a fight.
