Uno Free Fall Review

GBA Review | Is Uno still lots of fun?
Uno Free Fall is a budget-priced Game Boy Advance game released by Zoo Digital. Despite sharing the Uno name, Uno Free Fall is actually a puzzle game. The Gameboy Advance is ideal for puzzle games, and whilst Uno Free Fall is considerably light on features, it’s an easy game to pick up and play, and is well-suited for portable play.

The idea of Uno Free Fall is to try and match three identical cards using an Uno deck. Uno cards will fall down the screen, and you’ll need to place them in one of the eight columns. As the cards fall you’ll need to try and match three. Mixing up the game as well are special cards such as skip, reverse, draw two, wild and wild draw four. When stacked, these cards will have a special effect on the game, such as changing the colours of the cards. A timer also counts down in-game and when the timer gets low enough, a bunch of random cards are added to your pile.

There is no real tutorial mode in Uno Free Fall but there is a well-hidden instructions option. In terms of options, you can choose to play the classic mode, special mode or VS AI option. The classic mode lets you select a starting level (ranging from 1-20) and then you'll jump straight into the game. The special mode has three options: flippy mode, a perfect match option and a timed game. The flippy mode will turn the cards around so you don't know what they are after a while.

For Perfect Match, you'll need to remove all of your cards within a certain amount of moves, and in the timed game you only have a few minutes to try and get the highest score possible. For all of these games you can select a background and a music track. The VS AI mode lets you face off against the computer, and you can play with up to three other opponents in either a high score mode, timed game or in a classic game. The special cards have different effects in the multiplayer games. The wild draw four, for example, will drop four extra cards onto an opponent's playing field. Unfortunately, there is no multiplayer support for playing against other humans.

Uno Free Fall is a game pretty sparse on options, but it's surprisingly addictive. The game feels very similar to Tetris, and even though it may sound complicated, it only really takes a couple of minutes to pick up the rules. Uno Free Fall is highly recommended for those who are after a basic puzzle game that is easy to pick up and play.
The Score
Uno Free Fall is a decent budget priced Game Boy Advance puzzle game. It may not be as fun as actual Uno, but it's easy to pick up and play. 6
