Final Fantasy V in March

GBA News | The GBA isn’t dead yet.
Square Enix has announced that the long awaited re-release of Final Fantasy’s fifth instalment will arrive in Europe on 16th March 2007, with a similar date expected for remaining PAL countries.

The re-release of the Final Fantasy V includes a number of new features such as updated graphics, cleaner interface, four new jobs (Gladiator, Cannoneer, Necromancer, and Oracle) and a new 30-floor bonus dungeon. In addition, much like the previous GBA remakes, the game will include a bestiary, a quick save function, music player, and additional equipment.

Final Fantasy V is often cited as one of the best games in the series, mainly for its long and interesting story and the introduction of its deep job system - the game was also the last game in which series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi was director. More recently, the game was ranked 15th overall in Famitsu’s reader list of top 100 video games of all time. Final Fantasy V was originally released alongside Final Fantasy IV for the PAL release of the Final Fantasy Anthology for the PlayStation back in 2002.

We’ll have more on Final Fantasy V, including a review, closer to its release. Unfortunately, details regarding the re-release of Final Fantasy VI have yet to be announced.

I used to be very excited about this title, but the Wii's Virtual Console has essentially rendered having a Gameboy Advance moot. Except for Treasure games, which will hopefully end up entirely on the VC later.

What I'm saying is, I'd be surprised if all the Final Fantasies didn't end up on The VC sooner or later. Maybe even VII and VIII?!

Considering the success of the DS, the GBA is still selling pretty well. I think that this is due to the Final Fantasy ports that it has been getting and the GB Micro design. I have finished FFV on the Playstation and it is a great game. If you haven't played it before then here is a great chance.

You're probably right but the Gameboy Advance Version is an improved version icon_smile.gif

I never know whether to get the GBA versions. I already have Final Fantasy Anthology. They keep re-releasing everything, it is starting to get slightly confusing.

Well, with the GBA versions you know you're getting the best version. Not only do these games always have new features (in V you're getting new classes, which is great) but the translation has been fixed up greatly since their PlayStation re-releases and the overall presentation looks much cleaner. If you're a Final Fantasy fan, just owning the superior version is enough reason to own these.

And The Brett, the same thing applies with the VC. Chances are - if they released the games on the VC - then you'd be getting the NES/SNES versions of these games. But considering that some of these games were never released for the NES/SNES in PAL countries, who knows where that stands. And the chances of FFVII and FFVIII being released on the DS are higher than them being released on the VC (which is nil because they were PS releases).

I was just playing FFIII on the DS on the weekend and thinking how awesome it would be if they ported the PS1 FF games to the DS. Might be a squeeze onto a 512mb cart, but might be possible?

Here's hoping.

DS games are 128mb, by the way.

In comparison, the largest N64 game was 64mb. Most were 8-32mb in size.

Not at all - its pretty straight forward:

I purchased Final Fantasy Origins I & II, and seperately I, II, and III then Anthology with IV and V (but really was II & III) and then the collectors edition of I, II, & II and then the really rare limited edition re-release and the even rarer re-release of the re-release of Anthology and the US version of the re-release which came with a sticker of someones bum on it.

I thought I had covered it until I realised that Final Fantasy I, II, and III Christmas Special Limited Edition 2 is coming out at the end of the year.

Actually the GBA versions are pretty good. Seriously you should consider.
