Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis information announced

GBA News | It's the Mega Drive version of Sonic.
Sega has confirmed some details today via a press release regarding Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis, which is on it's way to the Gameboy Advance next month. The game is a direct port of the Mega Drive version of Sonic the Hedgehog, which if you ask us is one of the best 2D platformers of all time.

The game will include all seven of the original levels as well as an option to save, for those who are fainthearted. The save option will also save your high score. As an added bonus you'll also be able to unlock the game's original soundtrack, which should be enough incentive to play through the game more than once.

The first screenshots for the game can also be found in the media panel, so we suggest you take a look. We'll have more information on Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis as soon as it becomes available.

Unless I have finally succumb to the insanity that lurks within the bowls of the mind. You sir are incorrect. Those screenshots clearly show off Sonic The Hedgehog in all his 16 bit glory, not the latter title of Sonic 2, which is unfortunate being the better game. icon_sad.gif

Here's hoping it's both, but with a title like Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis, I'm not holding my breath, or indeed anticipating this at all considering I have a working Mega Drive, with 2 copies of Sonic 2 (for some reason I have no Sonic 1, so a Sonic 1 port would be most amiable).

Is it just me or is this just an attempt to steal Sonic's heritage out from under him in time for his reincarnation as a buff next gen hero? Judging from the demo, Sonic was pretty bad in a previous life. icon_lol.gif *sigh* Where has the fastest thing alive gone?

Is that it? A 7 level, old, yet classic, Sonic platformer?

How long is that going to last?

^ Go play the game.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 > Sonic the Hedgehog.
Having tails run along side you were just a whole lot more fun.
This is rather late for them to do this though. You would think when Nintendo was pushing out the NES Classic on GBA Sonic would just follow along.
Oh wells, at the least I can still play both of them on the Megadrive.

I personally thought sonic and knuckles was good. I use to have that on my PC ah that was good way to kill time.

The article originally said Sonic 2, I changed it when I noticed the error. I think the press release actually said Sonic 2 for some reason, but it's quite clear from the pics that it's Sonic 1.

Pity. Sonic 2 was a much better game IMO.

But i will still probably get it.

Isn't Sonic already on Gameboy Advance as part of that Sega Megadrive compilation cartridge. The one with Echo, Golden Axe and a few others.

With Sonic 1 being re-released on PS2, gamecube and soon Wii. It really seems an unnecessary release to me. Especially considering the Advance has passed its used by date.

All I'm saying is why put just this game on a cartridge and sell it? Why not some compilation? Why not make a new Sonic platformer - they've shown they still know how with Rush..

^ Money.

I loved the original Sonic games, all of them. So I'm definitely going to be checking them out once they hit the Wii via VC, hopefully.

Same, although I would think twice about VC considering I have Sonic Mega Collection on Cube, I'll save my VC points for Seiken Densetsu III (heres hoping we finally get it)
