After our previously ‘unexpected’ announcement of the development of Final Fantasy IV for the GBA, president of Square Enix, Youichi Wada, has today announced the development of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI for the Game Boy Advance.
While no specific dates were revealed for the two titles, it is expected that both titles will include similar extras to what Final Fantasy IV will receive – new items, characters and areas.
In other news, Youchi Wada announced that a 100% remade Final Fantasy III is still in development for the DS, after much speculation that lead us to believe otherwise. Square Enix showed off a small glimpse of the title in action at the recent Nintendo Conference, which showed characters and environments in 3D, in a similar style to Secret of Mana.
Will the love ever stop between Square Enix and Nintendo? Apparently not, with the announcement that Square Enix will be the developers behind Mario’s first Basketball outing for the Nintendo DS later next year, which will also feature online play.
No specific release dates have been revealed on any of the mentioned Square Enix titles, but it seems at this stage that mid-2006 is a likely target.
The first screenshot from Mario Basketball and a couple screen captures of Final Fantasy III can be found in the media panel to the right.
