Super Mario Ball announced

GBA News | No monkeys, just Mario.
If anyone harboured concerns that Nintendo-developed software would slowly trickle away on the Gameboy Advance in the coming months with the launch of the Nintendo DS months away, Nintendo Europe have settled our unease today by announcing the development of Super Mario Ball.

Super Mario Ball is a quirky fusion of both a pinball and an adventure game, and sees Mario transformed into a ball. Steamrolling through enemies, defeating Boss characters and winning new power-ups are just some of the things in store for fans of the obese plumber.

The new adventure sees Mario enter a new and exciting pinball world, with his aim (no surprise here) being to rescue his beloved Princess Peach, who's been kidnapped by (have a guess...) Bowser and taken to this other dimension. A scientist uses his 'Spherifier' machine to transform Mario into a ball and fire him off to destroy the fiend and save his love. Mario then enters the arena in which all the action commences, combining both adventuring and pinball together.

Players can choose their very own path through the varied environments of the Mushroom Kingdom, fighting off familiar enemies and collecting coins as they go. Each of the many environments, which range from a fairground to the countryside, have their own specific enemies for players to defeat and different features to explore. Players will encounter many all-time classic Mario power-ups along the way, including the Super Mushroom, 1-Up Mushroom, Invincibility Star and Lightning Bolt. And in true pinball style, the more enemies players fight off in quick succession, the higher the scores they'll amass.

Players control Mario through a set of flippers that appear at the bottom of each arena. Each arena takes up a single screen but by flipping Mario into certain doorways players can open special exits leading them straight to a new Boss. Make sure Mario doesn't fall through the flippers though, as this will send him backwards in the game or even to his defeat.

Super Mario Ball will be released on November 26th, 2004, and we'll have more information on the game as soon as it's announced.

Come on, I thought Nintendo were trying to shake off their "kiddy-image" icon_neutral.gif

Only just announced? I'm sure I heard of this a while ago.... icon_dumb.gif

Anyway, bah. Certainly not getting this, doesn't interest me. Mario is not suited for this role, it's blatantly a Kirby job.
(yay for Kirby's Pinball Land.)

It's been known for a while, but it was only official announced to countries outside of Japan a couple days ago.

The game looks entertaining though.

Super Mario 64 + Pinball x fun = Super Mario Ball.

This was shown at E3, wasn't it? What's it doing here?

Don't be so cynical, GT. It's a GBA game, it's pinball, it's better than nothing. icon_razz.gif

Looks really really really really really really weird icon_biggrin.gif, gotta love that.

Not on the list at the moment, I'll wait for some reviews icon_smile.gif.

This sounds really cool, but if it is basically a pinball game with a mario brand, then meh.

I want a fusion of super monkey ball and a standard sidescrolling platformer.

Heh, a Super Monkey Platformer would be quite cool actually. Like that level from that Xbox Crash game when he's in the straw ball..

.. Ahhh, the post-PGR2 days..
