Donkey Kong Country 2 heads to the GBA

GBA News | With added mini-games.
In what appears to be coming a tradition for Nintendo, the Game Boy Advance will be receiving an enhanced port of the Super Nintendo classic Donkey Kong Country 2.

Kaptain K. Rool has taken Donkey Kong captive, and it's up to his nephew Diddy Kong to rescue him. Since Diddy is a weed, he has enlisted the help of his girlfriend Dixie Kong to help him on his quest. Both Diddy and Dixie Kong can be used simultaneously allowing players to use their unique skills to fight off all the game's baddies.

From pirate galleons to muddy swamps, Donkey Kong Country 2 offers players a diverse terrain to explore, with over 40 new action packed levels and many hidden bonuses to collect in each one. Players must fight their way through each level and overcome the big boss to unlock new areas. On the crusade to rescue Donkey Kong, Rambi the rhino and Enguarde the swordfish, are always on hand to help fight the enemies. To get more help, up to four other friends can join in the caper using the Game Boy Advance Link Cable.

There are a whole host of great mini-games to explore in Donkey Kong Country 2. Players can soar through the skies of the jungle in gyrocopters in Funky's Flights, stretch their minds with the quiz game Bonus Bonanza, whizz round wild tracks in Expresso's Racing and collect creepy crawlies in Bag a Bug.

Donkey Kong Country 2 is scheduled for release across Europe on June 25th and is expected to set you back around 40 Euros (£27). An Australian release has not been set as yet, but we'd expect it to launch around the same time for the usual first party GBA price of $69.95.

PALGN will have more news on Donkey Kong Country 2 as it breaks.

It also might be worth noting that in the latest Scribes update at www.rareware.com, in response to a letter saying the graphics of DKC look weak compared to the original, particularly through the Gameboy Player, the GBA team stated:

Quote
"DKC was made to be played on the GBA, the palettes were adjusted to suit the dark screen. We didn't get the GBA SP or the GB Player until after DKC was finished. As you will soon see, the palettes in DKC2 are much better suited to all systems."
I'm hoping for a flawless port this time.

Yeah, I read that earlier in the week.

I'll buy it, cause it kicked arse on the Snes. I have sold my Snes, so I haven't played the game for a while.
Although I'm not very interested in the mini games.

For some reason I'm not interested in these DKC ports to GBA, despite that I love the SNES versions. I guess the graphics could have something to do with it...

Ah the memories of this game on the snes oh well won't be as good sadly. icon_cry.gif

nah but half of it not being as good will be for nostalgia purposes. I mean a lot of people have fun on a game or remember it to be better than it was. This port better not be stuffed up.

Hopefully after putting out Banjo-Kazooie and SabreWulf, Rare's GBA team have better experience with the GBA hardware so that the problems with DKC won't be repeated.

Ahh - DKC2 was by far my most favourite in the series. Much more diverse than DKC1, and much less stupid than DKC3. The music was fantastic (The inspired BramblesInTheBreeze OCR brought back good memories), and I never got to finish the game.

...well, we'll see about that.
