Nintendo also held firm on their stance with their main characters, such as Mario, Link and Bowser, saying that they would always remain true to their roots. "Mario will never start shooting hookers," was how Nintendo's George Harrsion put it.
Nintendo's product demonstration saw a wealth of games shown, including:
Sega's Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg - GameCube
Wario World - GameCube
Star Fox Armada - GameCube
WarioWare - GBA
Pokémon Coliseum - GBA
Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 - GBA
Donkey Kong Country - GBA
Nintendo also said how they were keen to improve third party relations, and that in the first half of last year didn't see enough GameCube exclusive titles released. He also said that games like Super Mario Sunshine and Metroid Prime didn't live up to expectations. Uh, didn't Metroid Prime surpass everybody's expectations? I must have missed the memo. He also said that Nintendo needed to improve their games cosmetically, enhance the difficulty and create 'edgier' products.
F-Zero GX was also shown, the first product of the 'Triforce Partnership' between themselves, Namco and Sega.
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike was also shown. It's graphics have become even more amazing, stunning the crowd.
Capcom displayed video from Resident Evil 4 for GameCube.
n-Space, a Nintendo partner, also displayed their upcoming first person shooter, the Geist.
Square Enix displayed Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles for the GameCube, acknowledging the exclusive GBA link up features.
Will Wright from Maxis also spoke of new Sims titles for the GameCube and GBA, and that they would be able to link up to each other.
The usual suspects from EA were shown. American sports were all covered, with FIFA, Madden, Tiger Woods Golf NHL and NBA games shown. Also shown were SSX 3 and the next Bond game.
A new Zelda GameCube title is in the works, in a form of a party based game, not unlike the GBA's Four Swords.
A GBA-GCN link up version of Pac-Man is also in the works. The GBA player will control Pac-Man, while the GCN player will control the monsters. However, they won't be able to see the full map.
In arguably the biggest news of the conference, Hideo Kojima unveiled Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for GameCube - a graphically enhanced version of the PSX original. Silicon Knights will be handling development.
In closing, Nintendo ran a montage featuring upcoming games, such as:
1080 Avalanche - GCN
F-Zero GX - GCN
Metroid Prime II - GCN
Viewtiful Joe - GCN
P.N.03 - GCN
The Hobbit - GCN
007 Everything or Nothing - GCN
Enter The Matrix - GCN
Soul Calibur II - GCN
Advance Wars 2 - GBA
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance - GBA
Sword of Mana - GBA
They also answered a few questions from the press. They aren't ruling out a GCN price drop (can it get any lower?), are intending to grow with the times, stay IN the console market, stick with what works, and continue making great, innovative games.
