E3 2006: DK Bongo Blast revealed

GCN News | Drag the Gamecube Bongo drums out one more time...
Nintendo has revealed the latest Bongo Drum game for Gamecube - this time it's a racing game called DK Bongo Blast. Check out the images for gameplay; they're pretty self explanatory. DK and pals have drum shaped jets, and the player will bang away on the bongo controller to make those jets burn. Turning will be achieved by hitting only one side of the bongos (or both at different rates). You also have to attack other drivers and collect fruit.

As crazy as this sounds, anyone who's played Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat will attest to how brilliantly the bongos were utilised in a 2D platformer, and it was one of the most entertaining games of the last year. After they pulled that off, this looks like a piece of cake.

Anyhow, take a peek at the Media Panel for the screens. DK Bongo Blast is due out this year exclusively for GameCube.

Oh Nintendo, you so crazy.

Its okay to let peripherals die, you know? Still, the game looks nice.

Interestingly this is from Paon, the Creators of DK King of Swing

What do you do in DK King of Swing?
you press the L Button to move left, the R button to move Right

What will you do in DK Bongo blast
you will hit the left drum to move left, the right drum to move right

Chances of making it to our shores = 0 IMO

From the Nintendo Australia site: Donkey Konga 2 Still TBC
(released almost a year ago in the UK)

But Donkey Konga 2 is the same thing as Donkey Konga (aside from the songs, of course), whereas this is a completely different game.

I'm not sure if they'll release a version with Bonogs, though, since I tend to see alot of Jungle Beat with Bongo boxes, but maybe thats because they are harder to hide.

Jungle Beat was really, really awesome, so don't write this off straight away (although it doesn't seem as fun a concept).

I really need to pick up Jungle Beat. Anybody know the cheapest place I could pick it up with Bongos (which will mean I have 2 for 2 player Donkey Konga and possibly this when the time comes)?

Back to the topic, I think this could be rather interesting, though.
