E3 2006: Super Paper Mario announced

GCN News | And it's coming to the GameCube.
Nintendo has just announced that Super Paper Mario is on it's way to the GameCube and will be available by the end of the year.

What at first glance appears to be a 2D sidescroller ripped straight from the pages of the Paper Mario universe soon turns into a 3D action-adventure. The action sprawls across eight worlds filled with traps, puzzles, bizarre mysteries and items that often draw themselves out of thin air. Mario won't be the only character in the game though, as Peach and Bowser will also be playable.

We've even managed to secure the first images of the game, which can be found in our Media Panel. Huzzah!

So, is this one not an RPG then?
More and action/adventure platformer type game then?

I was quite shocked when I first saw that this was revealed. Not only because it meant another GCN game, but also because I have only recently played Paper Mario 2. I absolutely loved that so I am now very excited about this new PM game. Bring it on. icon_smile.gif

Looks like it so far and I very much hope so. More interested in this than Galaxy from the little I've seen of both. Mind you, I've hardly ever played Mario 64 (if at all) and I didn't enjoy Sunshine, so maybe it's just something I have against the first Mario platformer that comes out for each Nintendo system? Actually hang on... it's the 3D Mario platforming that I'm not a fan of, that seems to make a bit more sense. icon_confused.gif

This one seems like a strange move for Nintendo, there were no mario platformers for so long, and now they're making everything into a platformer? Is this for people who can't play New SMB? It even has giant sprite mario to match the NSMB giant 3d mario...

I'm buying it though! I can't resist Paper Mario art icon_smile.gif

Can't wait for this, seems awesome. I remember reading an article where Miyamoto basically said; while developing New Super Mario Bros. the staff put a lot of thought into various storylines, before we decided that the game didn't need much story. Super Paper Mario to me says; this is what happened to those storylines. I wonder if the RPG elements are more just storyline progression and NPC interaction. Regardless I too can't wait to dive into this mathematical Mario implementation (look at the backgrounds).

3D Marios have all been collect-a-thons, with too much adventuring. I prefer the simpler, go to point x type sections in the games, especially the non-fludd levels of Sunshine, those were awesome. Having said that Galaxy looks amazing, can't wait to hop, skip, jump into outer space. icon_biggrin.gif
