Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes confirmed! - Updated!!

GCN News | Under development at Silicon Knights under the watchful eyes of Hideo Kojima and Shigeru Miyamoto. - Press release, art, and a few other tidbits.
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 2003--Continuing to broaden the Nintendo GameCube(TM) library, Konami and Nintendo today announced Konami will publish a new Metal Gear® adventure exclusive for Nintendo GameCube.

Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes(TM) combines the thrilling story of the original Metal Gear Solid® game with the jaw-dropping graphics and unparalleled gameplay found in Metal Gear Solid® 2: Sons of Liberty(TM). The game is scheduled to ship later this year in North America and Europe, followed by the Japanese launch in early 2004.

Bringing heart-pounding espionage action home to gamers, Metal Gear Solid® is one of the most highly-regarded action series ever created. Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes(TM) for Nintendo GameCube will combine stunning next generation graphics and gameplay, an epic storyline and unmatched content designed specifically for mature gamers.

Under the guidance of Konami's Hideo Kojima and Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo's exclusive second-party developer, Silicon Knights, is working with Konami to develop the game. Silicon Knights previously developed last year's award-winning Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem(TM) for Nintendo GameCube.

"I am tremendously excited to introduce a unique Metal Gear Solid® experience to a new audience of gamers as well as collaborate with my mentor in game design, Mr. Miyamoto, on Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes(TM) for Nintendo GameCube," says Hideo Kojima, vice president, Konami Computer Entertainment Japan, Inc.

"Mr. Kojima and I have spoken about this project for some time, and I'm excited our ideas have matched so perfectly," adds Shigeru Miyamoto, senior managing director of Entertainment Analysis and Development Division, Nintendo Co., Ltd. "It's this shared passion for game creation that has allowed us to collaborate to bring a special Metal Gear® project exclusively for Nintendo GameCube."

Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes(TM) will be featured at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) on May 14 - 16 in the South Hall at Konami Booth 900 and in the West Hall at Nintendo Booth 2816.

So that's the original Metal Gear Solid using the same technology featured in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and there is added speculation floating about that GBA connectivity will be a major feature in this title - perhaps for the codec and radar?

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes will be on display at the E3 exhibition later this month. No exact date has been mentioned for a PAL release, but the title is expected to ship this year.

Updated - 2/5/03:

Just received word from an editor at a major Nintendo site that MGS: The Twin Snakes will feature LAN gaming support, as LAN gaming will be a major focus for Nintendo at this year's E3.

I'm not too excited yet. If there isn't any exclusive content or something new, I'll pass.

Why, civic? You should be overjoyed to see a GC remake of one of the best, if not THE best stealth game to ever hit a gaming platform.

I don't get Nintendo people. icon_rolleyes.gif

No, you just don't get Civic. icon_wink.gif

Look at it this way. Think of it as an REmake in the hands of Silicon Knights. I mean come on, they're not stupid. If you've ever played MGS or MGS2, you'd be hella excited (although I get the feeling you've played both and are still unfazed)

It has to do with the fact that I played through Metal Gear Solid(yes, on a Playstation icon_surprised.gif ), and not that I'm a "Ninendo person". icon_razz.gif
Look at people who played through the original Resident Evil - most passed it on it because they had already played it countless times, and no matter how good the graphics were, they still didn't get too excited over it. I'm in the same boat, but with MGS...

Now, I'm not saying that MGS is a bad game, but I'm going to wait for new features or levels or whatever to be announced before I get all giddy with excitement. icon_wink.gif Like the following;
