No Godfather for Nintendo consoles

GCN News | EA whacks rumours on head and hides them in the trunk.
It's emerged that there are currently no plans to release The Godfather on any of Nintendo's consoles, handheld or otherwise. Speaking to Eurogamer.net earlier today, an EA representative moved to quash rumours that the game would be seen on Ninty platforms.

The denial came after the game had appeared as a GameCube, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS title on the website of EA Italy. As it is though, The Godfather will only be coming out on PC, PS2, PSP, Xbox and Xbox 360, meaning Nintendo fans will have to look elsewhere for their gangster kicks. Shame.

On a lighter note, it's been revealed that the game may not feature the voice of Marlon Brando - according to one report in the New York Times from earlier this week, the actor's heavy wheezing during the recording session made his dialogue unusable.

Ed's Note: We've also been informed that The Godfather has also been pushed back into next year. The game is now due sometime before the end of EA's fourth fiscal quarter, ending March 31, 2006.

I'm sure it will be an awesome game, not just a bad GTA clone </sarcasm>

as far as movie to game conversions go, i'm rating this only slightly higher than Fight Club...

the real kicker for me is Francis Ford Coppola refusing to have anything to do with, or even endorsing this game... kinda sealed the deal for me anyway... it's going to take an awfully good review for this game to pique my interest to go so far as to even try the game... let alone buy it...

If it's anything like Mafia, I'm sure I'll love it. Mafia was great.

Why all the pessimism? I haven't heard anything about this game that points to it being crap. I'm actually looking forward to it. But that delay really sucks...

How much longer do you think it'll be before EA Games is owned exclusively by Sony? 2 days? 3?

Given the market capitalisation of EA and the lengthy process for what would be a hostile acquisition, not bloody likely (for now).

No surprise, really.

How convenient you guys think it's a bad game already.

Like Obsolete said - Coppola himself has disowned the project. If the creator of the films thinks it's a bad idea and badly done, a fan of the films is likley to agree.

Well EA screws with Nintendo users again! Pfft no surprises theres, wouldn't care if EA went bankrupt! I was watching some gameplay videos yesterday, it looks pretty cool. As Capoeira said, if it's like Mafia I will love it but then I will say to myself "Wow this is just coping Mafia exactly, burn in hell!" icon_lol_old.gif Lets just hope they don't make a mockery out of the God Father Serries.

EDIT:

Coppola didn't even know about the game till so far into production!

Not to mention he's hardly the first and foremost authority in the videogame industry. They are making a videgame, remember. icon_wink.gif

well personally i'd rather play an original game than a movie tie (cash) in...

i'm not going to write it off without trying it, but my expectations are incredibly low...

and Coppola was shown a build in order to gain his endorsement and it back-fired... he refused... i know this is a game based on the movies/books, but when someone who already adapted one medium to another disowns it... somethings very wrong...

i, too, enjoyed Mafia... mostly because it reminded me of the Godfather series while being original in it's own right... but for some reason this isn't doing it for me...
