Sega Announces Shadow the Hedgehog

GCN News | Sega announces new adventure featuring Shadow, with a gun. First screenshots included!

At today’s ‘Walk of Game’ event, SEGA of America unveiled the first public announcement that they would be publishing a brand new Sonic the Hedgehog title for unspecified platforms in Q4 2005. Currently entitled Shadow the Hedgehog, the new title focuses heavily on Shadow, the ‘ultimate life-form’ created by Dr. Robotnik.

In what seems to be following a similar style of gameplay as the Sonic Adventure series, Shadow the Hedgehog will enable Shadow to carry around a gun and shoot objects and enemies in the surrounding environment. Exact details about the game’s story, characters and gameplay have yet to be confirmed, although the trailer does pose the question, “Hero or Villain?”, and then soon after, “You decide.”. As of now it looks like gamers will unravel the mysterious story behind Shadow’s heritage, however, your guess is as good as ours at the moment.

No specific details were given as to what consoles Shadow the Hedgehog will be featured on, however, it’s a good bet that a Gamecube version is a given, as well as a possible PS2 release. Expect to hear further details on Shadow the Hedgehog in May at E3 2005, or even sooner.

It better be good and it better be on Gamecube.

Sega games have all sold incredibly well on GC, even the ones not expected to (eg monkey ball 1 and billy hatcher), and apart from sonic heroes in europe, they pretty much flop or at least go below expectaions on other platforms (eg VF4 didn't sell anywhere near Tekken 4 even though it's 100 times better, PD orta, shenmue 2 and Taxi 3 flopped BIG TIME on XB)

Sega should have (and still should) go Nintendo exclusive. It's actually where they've made the most money.

But instead they port (badly) the games that they released on the GC they assume sold despite being on GC (even though all sold well on GC hmmm...) like monkey ball deluxe and Sonic (via Heroes).

Imagine if VF became GC exclusive? GC would have it's 'serious' fighting game, and it would sell through the roof (just like every other Sega game has).

Oh well, it is the same dumb company that released the 32X. I guess they just don't like money or independance or integrity eneough.

The 32x was just a sick joke, on the face of a dying company.

This is the final nail. Sonic Team is dead.

But on the plus side this is blatantly Shadow's sections of an Adventure 3. Which means no more boring as crap missions ala Big's and co's. Nack just screams to be put in this one. His sections should play like Gungrave or something. That'd be kick ass.

So long live Sonic Team.

(please note if this is really what they are trying to market as a game, I will never buy anything from Sega that doesn't go either Pop, or SAY-GA! I guess I might buy a NiGHTS game, and possibly a Phantasy Star, if it ever gets back to having a storyline, I suppose I could make an exception if they should make a Jet Set Radio)

In other words who cares if Sonic has outstayed his welcome in the 3D realm, I got a kick out of some of it, heck Sonic 3D wasn't *that* bad...well least compared with Knuckles Chaotix.

People that we know for sure will be in it: Shadow and Team Chaotix (don't believe me? read nintendo power)
People that should be in it: Nack the Weasel, Heavy and Bomb, and Bean the Duck.

Sonic the hedgehog meets Grand Theft Auto? Sounds like the only way to describe this game.
