Firstly, Leon will be able to interact with various townsfolk, who will offer him advice or buy or sell items to Leon. These villagers will only appear only various occasions (for example: when villagers aren’t around one may try to make a ‘secret’ deal with you) and will have an inventory full of hard to find and essential items. Finding the merchants adds another layer of depth in the game, since players will need to hunt down these merchants to find items and upgrades such as: firing power, firing speed, reload speed, and ammo capacity. Players will also be able to kill merchants for whatever reason, however, in doing so you’ll cause these merchants to die and never come back, destroying valuable source of shopping and new goods.
Similar to past titles in the franchise, players will only be able to carry a limited amount of items at the one time. In addition, Capcom has introduced a new means of managing your items. Leon will now be able to carry a number of attaché cases. These cases allow Leon to carry more items in his inventory. However, each item you receive or find will fill the case up, depending on their size of course. So gamers will now have to prepare their inventory in a much more manageable matter than before. Also another addition to these cases is that, throughout the game, the merchants will sell you larger cases so that you can carry more items.
Ashley, the President's daughter, plays a very important role in the game – besides being the main key to the game’s storyline. Leon will be able to utilize a wide number of different commands and orders to her to help make sure that she stays alive. Ashley will make various body language and movements that will allow Leon to solve puzzles or to be aware of upcoming danger.
In addition, Ashley isn’t entirely invincible and she has her own health meter, therefore players will have to look after her so she doesn’t get injured or captured by villagers. Since Ashley doesn’t carry any weapons, players will have to use their surroundings to help her survive, using rocks to throw at enemies for example.
Capcom also seems to be making the game's difficulty more accessible this time around, as well. There will be an Easy Mode for beginners, as well as the ability to save as many times as you want at typewriters. In fact, ink ribbons have been completely done away with so you have much more freedom in saving your game – maybe making the game too easy, but we’ll see.
