Resident Evil 4 No Longer Gamecube Exclusive

GCN News | Capcom sends the upcoming survival-horror title to the PS2.
Capcom Japan have today announced that the once Gamecube exclusive Resident Evil 4 title will be released for both the Gamecube and the Playstation 2, in a 'bid to satisfy the demands of the growing video-game industry'. And make Capcom tonnes of money.

Back in 2001, Capcom had made the announcement that Resident Evil 4 will be part of a five game exclusive package for the Nintendo Gamecube. However, most of the game’s announced have either been canned or released over multiplatforms due to poor sales of the Nintendo Gamecube console.

Capcom have decided to release the game on both consoles to ensure the satisfaction in the company’s customers, stakeholders and to, obviously, grab some more cash.

At the moment no date has been announced for the release of the PS2 version of the game, but we can no doubt assume that it will release along side or close to the Gamecube’s version of Resident Evil 4. PALGN will have more soon.

I heard end of 2005 for the PS2 version. How many of Capcom's big 5 have now gone to other platforms? 3 or 4?
What a loss for the cube, but it was inevitible.

It's 3, with one game being canned( Dead Phenoix) and one GC exclusive (PN03). Nintendo certainly snagged themselves a nice deal with Capcom.

i will still get the cube version

I guess I'll try and sell my Cube now before Christmas and get a PSTwo. Only reason for keeping the Cube was RE4 and Zelda. I've never had a PS2 before so there's a lot to catch up on.

If I still want Zelda, Cubes will be cheap as hell next year and I'll have more cash then anyway!

cube version will be better, ps2 version will have **** house graphics.

well it makes sense, it's their biggest series and they like money.

But yeah, it will have to be watered down heaps. The PS2 can't possibly do RE4 properly. even XB couldn't do it as well, but the PS2 does not have the fill rate, internal badwidth or texture passes and framework to do the game. It's like the most technically advanced game ever, and the PS2 really can't do it.

Maybe it will be pre-rendered on PS2?

Oh yeah, also

IT IS EXCLUSIVE FOR A WHOLE YEAR!!!!!

Which, as you can see with, say, GTA vice city, is as good as exclusive forever.

If you are a RE fan, the GC version will be far far better and out 1 year earlier.

I think it's amusing that people are viewing this in a negative light. It's not like the Gamecube is losing Resident Evil 4, but you'd think otherwise from the way people are acting. If you care about exclusives, Resident Evil (Remake) and Resident Evil 0 are still exclusive to the console, and are very much worth picking up.

It's a good move financially by Capcom, however, it is a bad move announcing that they are doing this before the Gamecube version releases, as they've probably lose a few potential sales of that version - a dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow. Capcom needs this one to be a success on the scale of Resident Evil 2 - believe it or not, they are beginning to get into some trouble financially. If it weren't for the success of Mega Man Battle Network in Japan, they'd be in some serious ****.

Technically speaking, they're going to need one hell of a good team to get a decent port, especially considering how bad the load times were in Resident Evil: Outbreak, which was built from the ground up on the Playstation 2. Bad ports didn't seem to affect consumer opinion of Code Veronica X, however.

And Console War fanboys get fuel for the chistmas season. Don't believe me? Check the IGN or Gamespot forums. I haven't been there myself, but I guarantee an abundance of argumentatively flawed idiocy. icon_wink.gif

Not bad news for Nintendo fans, but Stonedwal makes a good point in that they should have waited after the sales of RE4 had subsided before announcing a port.

not really, the announcement should have been made now since a fair chunk of sales would've been because it was a GC exclusive... they'd leave themselves open for all sorts of problems if they hadn't resolved this now...

i'm not saying it was the only selling point of the game, but if i really wanted this game, i'd have to buy a GC and then the game... if they then turned around and said, hey all you guys and gals who shelled out for a new console as well as the game, we're now releasing it for everything else, i'd be extremely pissed off... and i'd let people know about it...

But obsolete that's just talking about why it was good PR for them to announced it so early. It is bad marketing, Many games come out later on other consoles, look at the GTA series, people are already holding off buying SA just in case it comes to the XBox. They should have waited.

That's to be expected if you're the kind of person to buy a console solely for one game. icon_wink.gif

I suppose either way they's make roughly the same number of sales, it's more whether PS2 RE fans are screwed over or not.

nowhere have Rockstar said that GTA:SA is PS2 exclusive... whereas i was under the impression that Capcom had said that RE4 was GC exclusive... ok, so maybe they should've withdrawn the GC-Exclusive thing more discreetly, but i think it was the right thing to do...

and i'm not the sort to buy a console solely for 1 game... especially an RE game... was just an example...

After hearing the news, I was so pissed off that I ran to the kitchen, grabbed two forks, stabbed my eyeballs with the forks, ripped my eyeballs straight from my head, and then ate them for breakfast. I then re-read the "RE4 to PS2" news, and realised that I can still play Resident Evil 4 on my Cube, so why should I give a ****? However, it seems that I'm now unable to play Resident Evil 4, when it's released, as I've got no eyeballs. Man, am I ever kicking myself.
