Mario Party 6 to use microphone controller

GCN News | Latest entry in Nintendo's party game series to come packaged with the new peripheral.
Nintendo has today announced that Mario Party 6 for the Gamecube will make use of a proprietary microphone controller, officially named ‘Nintendo Gamecube Mic.’. Mario Party 6, scheduled to be released across PAL regions in the first week of December 2004, will come packaged with the microphone controller at the usual retail price.

Mario Party 6 will feature a brand new day-and-night system that will give game boards and mini-games a split personality. Boards transform, characters emerge from hiding and mini-games change dramatically depending on the time of day. The gameplay of Mario Party 6 has also been speeded up, with less down time between turns and mini-games.

As for the microphone controller, gamers will be able to compete in a separate ‘mic mode’ where gamers use the microphone to progress through the game. Players will be able to speak into the Mic to answer questions in a game show. It’s unknown at this time whether or not the microphone will be used during the single-player and multiplayer modes.

The game will feature the likes of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Daisy, Wario, Waluigi, Boo, Koopa Kid, Bowser, Donkey Kong and Toad as players battle it out through more than 75 all new mini games.

Mario Party 6 will be released along side Mario Party Advance, the first Mario Party handheld game, on December 3rd 2004. No details have been reveal yet if the two games will take advantage of connectivity, but the possibility wouldn’t be a surprise.

What...the...hell...

Nintendo has gotta stop with the niche peripherals. I can only see the bongo drums and the mic used with a handful of in-house games.

Mm, I agree.
Also, Nintendo seem to have a habit of introducing these things and then not using them enough icon_kero.gif (E-reader?)
At least it comes packaged with it though icon_smile.gif

If it doesn't ruin the enjoyment of the game it's fine by me. I'm only hoping that it doesn't play too big of a role in the actual 1player and multiplayer games though. Would have to buy another three Mic. Controllers just to play icon_razz.gif Yet Nintendo do make a lot of 'cash-in' games though so it wouldn't be a surprise.
