E3 2004: Advance Wars: Under Fire

GCN News | One of the greatest strategy games makes a new appearance on the Gamecube. First screenshots and footage included!
Of the great success of the past Advance Wars titles for the GBA, gamers craved for an all-new fresh experience, an experience to remember. Luckily, Nintendo have fulfilled this craving as the strategy wonder makes its next appearance for the Nintendo Gamecube. Well Nintendo are certainly giving a mouthful of fresh new experiences for gamers to enjoy. Under Fire will no longer be recognised as the superb turn-base strategy, but taking a whole new prospective of a real-time strategic action game. Players will once again take control of a squad of soldiers and lead them to the battlefront, telling them who and how to attack the enemy. As your troops gain experience through battles, they’ll acquire new abilities. Also, your soldiers will be able to commandeer vehicles, including tanks and gunships.

It’s hard to believe, after viewing the trailer, that this game is even part of the Advance Wars franchise, since it plays a lot like games such as Battlefront and Call of Duty. Nintendo still stick by the fact that the only difference in the game is the real-time style of gameplay - we’re still confident that it’ll play more like a war game with cartoony army men though.

The first footage of Advance Wars: Under Fire can be found here.

Stay focused on the PALGN main site as we plan to have a full detailed list of story, characters and troops tomorrow.

Apparently some first hands-on impressions aren't too favourable. icon_sad.gif
But I think the game is still to early to judge, and also consider that the title isn't due 'till 2005.
