Metroid Prime 2: Echos screenshots

GCN News | The sequel to one of the Cube's best games has a name. And screenshots. And multiplayer.
The kind folks in charge of the Nintendo of America website have uploaded some pictures of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes for us, in promotion for the games full scale E3 debut. As a sequel to one of the best games of the current generation, it doesn't really need it - but hey, who are we to complain?

In this outing, you will again take control of the bounty hunter Samus Aran. This time it seems that Samus is the hunted though, as a 'mysterious entity', and a rather nasty race called the Ing, desperately track her down for reasons currently known. Her travels take her to a planet, vaguely described by Nintendo as 'torn into light and darkness', where she must, as you would expect, build up her suit to slay her would be hunters.

However, the most interesting thing revealed in the current screenshots is this:

A not so subtle hint of a multiplayer mode. But, does the Metroid game engine lend itself to the fast paced style of multiplayer shooters? Debatable, but only time will tell.

Expect more information as it comes available - namely E3 in mid May. For more shots, check out the media panel to your right.

Great Graphics hopefully the gameplay lives up to them ( well if it's like MP then they will) icon_biggrin.gif . Multiplayer could be all right have to see how it works first of all.

When does this game come out again? icon_confused.gif

Nice, hopefully multiplayer will be pulled off properly, along with LAN play... icon_smile.gif

Urg multiplayer metroid. That looks so fake. Someone shoot me.

How can you think it's a good thing?

Surely putting in extra features such as multiplayer can't be a bad thing? The more the better. icon_smile.gif
You don't have to play the multiplayer mode ... I just think (provided Nintendo can pull it off correctly, which I'm sure they can) it'll be great fun to play. icon_kero.gif

that multiplayer screenshot looks awful, if the real one is going to be like that then kill me now, cause it looks utter balls. Also, is it me, or does the rest look really bad as well? I know things will clear up and obviously they're just screenshots, but even the baddies designs were terrible. What was with that snake thing? Honestly, i loved Prime, but if it carries on like this, i think i'm going to be dissapointed!

That's a good point Griffin.

I think it's a bad idea because I don't believe they will pull it off. Metroid isn't a game that should have a multiplayer, the only way it would have a multiplayer is if they added more first person elements. Metroid is not an adventure game like Zelda, it is all about exploring, Metroid Prime with all the scanning and stuff was just to long. A 2D Metroid game I can usually get about 100% item clear in about 8-9 hours. Metroid Prime it took me like 30 and I still didn't get all the scans. It bored me the scanning, and Echoes will seemingly add more rubbish, what with its dark world. Er...In summation multiplayer Metroid will probably just be some deathmatch that would be fitting in a first person shooter but not in Metroid. Having said that they could suprise me with a four swords style co-op game, which could be really good, judging from those screens that does not seem to be the case.

I'm a big fan of Prime, and I'm hoping they'll pull of a decent multiplayer mode....The ability to be a space pirate maybe? I'm not sure, but I'm hoping nintendo and retro won't stuff it up completely. Otherwise, the single player mode will be either just as good, or maybe even better, its going to be great. icon_biggrin.gif

But that'd just be obvious spam evasion. icon_razz.gif

I don't exactly hate Prime, I just think people fuss over it too much, when there are loads of other games that it pales in comparison to. icon_razz.gif

I dunno, I just searched "Metroid Prime Echos release" in google and ripped the first date. Could be for any country as far as I know, the guest didn't specify. icon_razz.gif

Nintendo and Retro always do a great job with the character designs. I wouldn't judge a game's value over screenshots. How can the multiplayer look fake? Look at Halo, one of the greatest multiplayer FPSs: when you climb up ladders, u dont need arms to hang onto the rungs. I've seen DS trailers of Metroid Hunter's multiplayer and it looks great. If Echo's is anything similar to it I would give it a thumbs up. Sure, with the auto-targeting system with the L-button, it will probably not involve "head shots" and whatnot, but I think they can pull it off. Also, the sidescroller metroids are too freakin' short. I would rather have a 24-30 hour game with 90% completiion than a 4 hour game with 100% completion (trust me, I just wasted $35 on MGS: the Twin Snakes and I beat it 3 times in 5 days). Sure, there's no way that Echo's multiplayer will top Halo 2's, but they're two completely different kinds of games. Halo's more about the follow-the-targeting-cursor-and-kill-everything-that-move's kind of thing:perfect engine for a multiplayer game, but Metroid Prime is more reserved, a FPS that you can enjoy without having to be a blood-thirsty gamer icon_smile.gif .
