Viewtiful Joe 2 Announced

GCN News | Joe - and hopefully his Henshin A Go Go Baby catch phrase - are back for another round of cel shaded beat 'em up fun. But this time the PS2 gets in on the action as well.
Viewtiful Joe was arguably the surprise of 2003. Announced as one of the Capcom 5, Joe kicked his way onto the GameCube in the second half of last year, delivering a hugely enjoyable cel shaded return to the days of the 2D side scrolling beat 'em ups, with hugely enjoyable gameplay. In fact, it got a very healthy 9/10 from this very website. However, critical acclaim didn't lead to a mass of sales of Viewtiful Joe.

Despite this, Capcom have deemed the game worthy - and rightfully so, thank you very much - of a sequel. However, it won't just be the GameCube on the receiving end of another heroic quest - the PlayStation 2 will also get in on the action.

Viewtiful Joe 2 won't be massively overhauling the gameplay, instead opting to extend the formula in place further. The most obvious change in the game is that Joe and Silvia - Joe's girlfriend, and kidnap victim in the first game - will be playable from the games outset.

"With new visual effects, enemies and challenges, Joe and Silvia are ready to take on an all new Viewtiful adventure," commented Capcom's director of marketing, Todd Thorson.

Aside from that, expect the usual bells and whistles you usually would from a sequel - new levels, new weapons, more extensions on Joe's vehicle, new enemies, etc. A new VFX power will also be incorporated in the form of Reply, which will make Joe's attacks more potent.

Viewtiful Joe 2 is expected for a release in Japan and the States in the third quarter of this year - hopefully the same applies for the PAL version. PALGN will have screens as soon as they become available.

Yeah same except I got EB to match the price due to neither games I wanted were at Myers.

I'll also be buying this game as soon as it comes out.

wayhay at last, this game better include some new amazing powers, and another crony catch phrase would be nice too. But do you really reckon this will go down well on the PS2? It does seem too "nintendo" for them to deal with, but we'll have to see.
