Japanese tracker releases 2007 sales summary

PALGN News | What were last year's top sellers in Japan?
One of the two Japanese sales trackers has released a short summary of how 2007 went down in Japan, sales wise. The data, collected by Enterbrain and published by Japanese games magazine Famitsu, is not their full release (a top 500 sellers list will be published eventually), but a quick summary of the top five selling games and consoles, as well as a dollar value of each category.

Probably the most surprising thing to come out of 2007 in Japan was a mini-resurgence of PlayStation Portable, led by Monster Hunter Portable 2 which has become by far the PSP's highest selling game in Japan--selling almost 1.5 million when no other PSP game has even passed a million in the country, and only three are above 500k. The PSP also benefited from the PSP Slim launch, which has significantly boosted hardware sales since its release.

Otherwise, Japan looks a lot like the rest of the world, with Nintendo DS and Wii on top.

Japan in 2007
Total market value 2007: 687.66 billion Yen (AU$7.01 billion) - Up 9.9% on 2006

Why the hell is that the best thing????? The ps2 did so well is because it brought out so many good games. I am not taking anything from the wii just saying

EDIT: on a side note i have ordered monster hunter 1 and 2 just to see why the japanese love it so.

It's a good thing, because the PS2 has hit it's lifespan, support has started to lower for it as games are being made for the "current" generation of consoles.

Agreed with TheAnswer and MHP2 being up in there, seems that that is the only game that is being bought on the PSP over there.
