This week's releases - 26/11/07

PALGN Feature | The best and worst of the galaxy come to Earth.
This week marks one of the last chances for publishers to get their big titles onto shelves before the big pre-Christmas spending frenzy. Indeed, Nintendo has saved one of their best for last with Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii hitting retail stores this Thursday. PALGN reviewed the game a few weeks ago, awarding it a perfect 10/10 – only the second time in our history that such a score has been bestowed on a game.

While owners of the Wii are given the opportunity to venture out into space, the scourge of the galaxy also comes to Earth this week in the form of Blacksite: Area 51 on the Xbox 360. Midway's squad-based first-person shooter puts players in the shoes of a soldier tasked with eliminating a plague of alien invaders. The PlayStation 3 version of the game is expected to follow early next year.

Another noteworthy game for Xbox 360 hitting stores this week is Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation. After witnessing Ace Combat 6 in action at Atari headquarters a few weeks ago, we can say that the game is visually looking absolutely stunning. The military flight simulator is also promising players the same broad choice of fighters seen in previous games in the series. In addition to tearing up the skies players can hit the roads with Electronic Arts' Need for Speed: ProStreet, which is also released on the Xbox 360 this week.

While it is a quiet seven days for PlayStation 3 owners, there is one significant release for them this week – Stranglehold finally sees the light of day after being released some time ago on the Xbox 360. Nonetheless, it is a good week for those with a PlayStation Portable, with Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, Jackass the Game, Medal of Honor Heroes 2 and Silent Hill: Origins all being released.

There is also no shortage of titles on the PC this week, with the abovementioned Blacksite: Area 51 and Need for Speed: ProStreet, Hour of Victory and Unreal Tournament III all hitting shelves. The third game in Epic's popular shooter franchise will be available as both a Standard and Collectors Edition.

The younger generation are also in for a big week with a number of licensed games being released, including Shrek: Orges and Dronkeys for the Nintendo DS, the Wii version of the game based on the Bratz movie, DragonBall Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 on the PlayStation 2 and THQ's multi-platform Cars Mater-National. Lastly, Microsoft make their own attempt at a Buzz-like game with the family-friendly Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action for the Xbox 360, which comes out this Thursday. The game also comes bundled with four wireless buzzers.

So where's the cheapest I can get Mario Galaxy?

Awesome, I'm so checking out those language games on the DS, I need a way of improving my French, which is pretty much non-existent these days! And it's bound to be amusing if it's on the DS!

Hey, any chance the PalGN team are going to review those language titles? Maybe do a mass review of the lot of them or something, I'm interested in getting into a new language but I don't have the time to do classes or anything. I do, however, spend a good 3 hours a day on the tram and bus which would be a great opportunity to build even just a basic level of skill from these.

So yeah, are you planning on reviewing them?

Though if you pre order at JB you get a free guide, not that you would need it or anything, but they can be a nice collectible icon_smile.gif

That would be Resident Evil 4 on GCN. Definitely deserving of a 10.
