This week's releases - 19/11/07

PALGN Feature | Massively speedy assassins.
The last few weeks have seen the release of numerous big-name titles, and the coming seven days are no exception. After last week's late delay, Assassin's Creed on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 finally makes its way onto retail shelves this Wednesday. Ubisoft's action blockbuster puts players in the shoes of a mysterious assassin in the medieval Middle East. After witnessing the title in action over the weekend at the eGames and Entertainment Expo, we can say that it is looking very polished and detailed. As an added bonus, customers who have reserved their copy of the game will also be entitled to the pre-order pack, which contains some additional Assassin's Creed goodies.

This week's other major release is BioWare's sci-fi action-RPG Mass Effect. The game, available exclusively on the Xbox 360, combines real-time combat with traditional RPG elements is promising between 20 and 40 hours of gameplay. Mass Effect includes a number of endings, depending the on choices made in the game, so it is sure to be a title played quite a bit over the holiday season.

Other major titles being released this week include the next instalment in Electronic Arts' racing series Need for Speed: ProStreet and Epic's Unreal Tournament III. While EA's game will be available on a number of different platforms, Unreal Tournament III is currently only being released on the PC. Nonetheless, the third game in Epic's popular shooter franchise will be available as both a Standard and Collectors Edition.

Finally, PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3 owners can get their hands on THQ's wrestling game WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008, PC owners will be able pick up the expansion Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance and the game adaptation of the film Beowulf makes it way into stores.

Games for the younger crowd this week include multi-platform releases of Barbie as the Island Princess and Hot Wheels: Beat That! Titles being released on the Wii this week are Pokemon Battle Revolution, which is promising connectivity with Diamond and Pearl on the Nintendo DS, and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.

Crap apparantly. At least that's what reviews are showing (the game at least, film could be alright even though animators seem to be retarded and still unable to actually make a person move like a person).

Can't wait for Assassin's, I pre-order my copy and EB said they would ring me tomorrow, this and GTA IV are literally the main games I wanted a PS3 for, (I know I could have got a 360 but I'm more comfortable with Sony lol)...
