Airbourne Interview

PALGN Interview | We talk to drummer, Ryan O’Keeffe about Airbourne's work with EA Sports and some of their future goals.
PALGN recently caught up with Ryan O’Keeffe, the drummer from Australian rock band, Airbourne. In the interview, O’Keeffe has discussed some of the videogame soundtracks Airbourne has been featured in, if they prefer playing in a recording studio or in front of a live audience and what they hope to be doing in the next few years.

PALGN: To start off with, can you tell us a little about yourself?

Ryan O’Keeffe: I’m Ryan O’Keeffe, I’m the drummer in AIRBOURNE from Australia. Joel (Lead Vocals/ Lead Guitarist) & I founded the band 9 years ago.

PALGN: What’s it like working as a rock group – do you get along together or are there constant feuds?

RO: It’s fine. Joel & I being brothers do all the fighting whilst the other two get to watch the entertainment.

PALGN: You’re a relatively new group in the Australian music industry. Has it been tough to get noticed, particularly when there are dozens of other bands aiming for the same or similar goals?

RO: Not really as the whole band has been living in a house together for over 3 years now we’re able to work as a team every day to push things further.

PALGN: You’ve recently been featured in EA Game’s Madden 08, Nascar 08, Skate, Need For Speed, and NHL 08 videogames. How did you become a part of these projects?

RO: I guess Rock ‘n’ Roll works well in sports games. Plus our friends down at EA are some of the best people you can meet so we’re privileged to be apart of their projects.

PALGN: Do you feel being a part of these projects will spread the band’s popularity and make the general public (or at least gamers), more aware of your presence?

RO: I think it will, they sell a lot of those games.

PALGN: Besides videogames, you’ve also recorded a few albums and singles. Do you prefer recording music or playing live in front of a crowd?

RO: Nothing in the world beats playing in front of a crowd! We love every second of it.

PALGN: How do you feel when you’re playing a videogame and your band’s song starts playing in the background?

RO: Haven’t played them yet but I guess it would be pretty hilarious.

PALGN: Is there any particular franchise you want to be a part of? Guitar Hero perhaps?

RO: Jack Danials.

PALGN: What other videogames will Airbourne be involved with in the future?

RO: Tony Hawk, and hopefully many more.

PALGN: Where do you want to be in the next ten years?

RO: On the road playing Rock’n’Roll.

PALGN would like to thank Ryan O’Keeffe, Jenny Jobring and Airbourne for taking the time to answer these questions. For more information on Airbourne, please check out their official site by clicking here.
