Bond franchise 'suffered a lot' under EA - Activision

PALGN News | Two new 007 projects also in the pipeline.
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has revealed that the publisher is bringing the James Bond franchise back to the gaming world. The company is hoping to revamp the Bond series with two new titles based on the spy films, reports gamesindustry.biz.

Activision bought the rights to create James Bond titles back in 2006 after Electronic Arts concluded their own contract with MGM Interactive to make games based on the 007 franchise.

"Bond is one of the great videogame franchises of all time and that really was a result of GoldenEye," Kotick stated. "I think the key to re-energising the Bond franchise is going to be ultimately the highest possible game quality."

In Kotrick's opinion, Bond's previous outings with Electronic Arts – with titles such as From Russia With Love – were somewhat derelict. "[The Bond franchise] suffered a lot because it wasn't a focal point of Electronic Arts' efforts over the past five years and they have such a broad portfolio of franchises that this one didn't get the attention it deserved."

According to Kodrick, Activision will be taking a different approach. "We have our best development studios working on the product, we have a second team working on another Bond product and we're putting great resources against it," he said.

Anything under EA (that isn't sport based) seems to suffer a lot. icon_razz.gif

Let's hope that Activision aren't all talk and no action.
EA made some decent Bond games (except for Goldeneye: Rogue Agent, what the hell were they thinking?), and it'd be nice to see them do better.

Personally, I don't care what they do as long as there is some awesome 4-player splitscreen action. Goldeneye 007 is getting on in the years.....

Everything or Nothing was quite good fun, but the rest of the EA Bond games were predominantly rubbish. Here's hoping for a fresh take.

^^^ took the words right outta my mouth! EON was pretty cool, but everything else was below average. I'm a HUGE Bond fan (a large part of me getting my PS3 at launch was for the free Casino Royale Blu-Ray) and would love to see the franchise FINALLY get the game it deserves after a 10 year drought.
Unless, of course, Activision screws it up, too, in which case they can go to hell and die.

Eh, Nightfire wasn't terrible. Standard console FPS, but the multiplayer was balanced and fun, and you got to shoot Denise Richards bots in the face a lot (bots = Denise Richards was the standard rule at our place icon_lol.gif ).

Oh, and the CG original 'Bond intro' was pretty good.

Next-Gen Bondage. Cool. icon_wink.gif
I look forward to every Bond game, I just hope that Activision deliver.
Nightfire had the crappiest AI in the SP game, EON wasn't bad - give or take the controls, but I want an awesome Bond game and not just another generic FPS.
