Australian sales charts, week ending 21/10/07

PALGN News | It's raining Catz and Dogz.
For the third week in a row, Halo 3 is sitting pretty at the top of the charts, making it as big a success as Microsoft promised. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass held its ground at two, as did Drawn to Life at three, making it two in a row for the DS. The first of this week's new entries is at four, in the form of the PS2 incarnation of Crash of the Titans. Right behind it is, err, Catz 2006. On the DS, of course. A few years behind the times, but still selling well apparently. It's cooler to use a 'z', obviously.

Singstar Pop Hits made a return to the charts at six, after being forced out by the DS craziness of last week. The okayish Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights dropped three spots to finish at seven - you can read Luke's full review here. Like Pop Hits, Singstar 90's made it back to the charts in eighth place after a week off. Nine sees Dogz 2006 enter the charts, four spots behind Catz, providing some much needed closure to the cats vs. dogs debate. At ten is yet another Singstar game - Rock Ballads.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by the beautiful and lovely people at GfK.

The article and the overall top 10 don't match up, I think you have the wrong chart.

Edit: Hey, just trying to be helpful, no need to neg.

^ they match to me.

otherwise, it's probably a case of Gfk's images being a little flooey, since they have the same URL week in, week out, so that people can just pop the link on a page and it'll "auto-update" when the new chart comes up.

(go back to a previous week's chart write-up, the images should be this weeks)

Hence hold shift, hit refresh and it should load up the correct charts for you..

EDIT: Am I the only one surprised that all versions of FIFA 08 have fallen off the overall top 10?

It still boggles my mind that in this age of flashy graphics and huge tvs that the DS and PS2 absolutely kill the charts. Except of course for Halo 3, but then again millions of dollars in advertising can certainly help sales out a bit.

Not to mention 99% of old gen games crap all over the next gen games in terms of gameplay and story.

I get what you're trying to say, and I agree that 'next-gen' games aren't much of an IMPROVEMENT over 'old gen' games, but in no way do I think they are inferior in terms of gameplay or story...it's just that there haven't been as MANY classics due to their short lifespan...give it time icon_razz.gif or play Bioshock if you need a clue of what next gen games are gonna be like...

Not quite true, as every generation has it's memorable titles for being brilliant, the games we think about when we look back upon an era. Certainly a good game from times past will be better than a bad game from today, but there are titles which have significantly aged over time, and the reasons that they were impressive back in the day may no longer be valid.

Then there is the nostalgia factor, the games that introduced us to the world of gaming, the titles that bring back the memories of how things used to be. Sure, there will be many games that will be fun today despite their age and irrespective of nostalgia, but try sitting a kid down who has been brought up on all this newfangled "HD" and "3D" stuff, and get them to play some Castlevania from the NES, and it won't go over too well... icon_wink.gif

I suppose the point I'm making is that games were not better "back in the day", nor are they necessarily better now in terms of gameplay, their "greatness" all falls down to comparisons between a game and other games of their time. 99% of old games are better than all the new ones? No way! I'll take Project Gotham 4 over Cruisn' USA any day!

Except your logic is completely destroyed by the whole Halo 3 fiasco. I am more inclined to put it down to the fact that hardcore gamers seem to be a minority these days.
