Street Fighter IV announced

PALGN News | Very few details at this point, however.
It's been over eight years since the last canonical Street Fighter release Street Fighter III:3rd Strike, and a countdown page on Capcom's official website has finally revealed a continuation of the fighting series in Street Fighter IV: A New Beginning. The logo has been revealed, and there's even a teaser trailer of a Ryu and Ken fighting, but it's clearly not gameplay footage.

It is not mentioned which platforms the game will be coming to (if any - it's an arcade series remember), or even a release date, although rumours suggest the game is still more than a year away. We don't even know if it will be 2D or 3D. Although the trailer - while almost certainly not representative of the final product - does appear to imply three dimensions, so you better get those pitchforks ready 2D fans.

We'll keep you updated as more info comes to hand, but it may be a long wait on this title...

YES!
My fave series of all time... who was it on these boards that called this when the capcom wednesday rumor story was put up?

I would never have guessed, if it doesnt play like the 2D ones at least, war.

ohhh yeah i will be buying an arcade stick for this. Just the hardest part is picking a console to get it on icon_sad.gif

f**K!

The trailer is gorgeously done. Although not gameplay footage, I'm just picturing street fighter done in a graphical style similar to that. That would be sick.

+100 hype for this.

anyone who has been on PALGN for a while will know that i'm not a fan of the Street Fighter games, but damn that trailer has some sexy visuals and art design.

I really hope they pull off a 720/1080p 2D Street Fighter game, with that visual style, its possible....... even if its 3D anc plays like 2D.

Arcade first? Usually thats the SF way, but these days with arcades on decline (here anyway) possibility of console release is high. Cant wait to hear more. E3 08 anyone?

IV, IV??? Surely you mean CXII because there is no way anyone will swallow that this franchise thinks it's only in it's fourth edition

It will be 2D! CAPCOM wouldn't bother after the EX series. They know Street Fighter is a 2D game and I can't see why they would do it any differently. SF3 was 2D even though 3D fighters were already mainstream then. They may build it with 3D characters but there is NO way the gameplay will go 3D (maybe cell shaded or similar?) with SFIV. They have plenty of 3D fighter series to use for that style of game.

Great news, I still remember pumping in 20c and $1 coins into the Street Fighter 2 and the variations that came out with it, such an awesome series. Who could've thought that the so so first game in this series, Street Fighter, which really was average at best would be the great great great grandaddy of such an awesome series.

I think I just wet myself...

A playable version of that trailer would do me! I'm pretty sure it's going to be 3d though, unless it's a downloadable game or something, 2d has no mass-market appeal nowadays icon_sad.gif

The trailer is pure sex. Maaan, I hope it keeps that art style.

1. The game will most likely have 3D graphics since Capcom have stated previously that Capcom Fighting Jam would be their last 2D fighter. (Street Fighter II HD is a remake and doesn't count as a new title.)

2. Street Fighter was born in the arcades, and the arcade is still huge in Japan. This will no doubt either premier in the arcades, or appear on both console and arcades at the same time. The new Tekken game debuted in arcades (it is yet to appear on home console) so SFIV will probably follow suit.

3. There is no three.

4. Street Fighter would be an ideal title for downlaod content. How awesome would it be to see one of the original SFII cast members as a download on Live or PSN?

5. Whatever happens, I personally can't wait.

Was it just me or did it look like Ken had Ryu's number?

Usually.......it seems they are pretty equal, with ryu being 0.000001% better because he is all, you know, spiritual and dedicated and a lone wolf etc etc.

Interesting.

EDIT-to below, i was more reffering to the street fighter canon/storyline that ryu is better then ken, rather then the actual game, where ken pwns.

Personally I hope that trailer has nothing to do with the game. While the art style and movement of the clothing is good, Ken and Ryu's faces are terrible. Ken's hair looks bad too. They look like awful American CG. They remind me Namco CG circa Tekken 2, or even the Street Fighter EX Ryu and ken designs.

Then again, Street Fighter 2 had pretty poor art overall, I've just been spoiled by the near perfection of Alpha 2, 2nd Impact and 3rd Strike.

Ken is the more powerful character in most SF games.

Capcom fighting Jam was made by the hacks at Capcom USA, so I'm not sure that any promises they make stand. I'm desperately hoping SFIV will be Japanese developed.

1080P seems out of the question to me, way too much effort to get that art style at that resolution.

And damn I can't wait for more info, been a while since I've played SF, I would've preferred not knowing this game existed only to have it be released as a surprised, instead I've got to handle my anticipation on it somehow..

O rly?

I guess this was all made up and an elaborate hoax much like Electronic Gaming Monthly's April Fools for Street Fighter 2 saying Shenlong, Ryu's master, was an unlockable character in the arcade versions? icon_lol.gif

Street Fighter III (ストリートファイターⅢ, Sutorîto Faitâ Surî?) is a fighting game produced by Capcom, released in 1997 on Capcom's CPS-3 hardware, which is a continuation of the famous Street Fighter series.

The game was produced in three editions, each adding more characters as well as making minor modifications to the gameplay:

Street Fighter III: New Generation
Street Fighter III 2nd Impact: Giant Attack
Street Fighter III 3rd Strike: Fight for the Future
The original Street Fighter III and 2nd Impact follows the same storyline (much like the first two Alpha games), while 3rd Strike is a continuation of both (much like Alpha 3).

Damn, Capcom is on the ball today. First that amazing Bionic Commando trailer and now this. Hands down best trailer I've seen all year, and I'm not even a fan of the series! That doesn't mean I'm not excited to see where this leads.

didn't they announce a couple months ago a new 2D fighter based on the Devil Kings series?
More street fighter is always good news though. I remember standing around at this small shopping center with about 10 other kids watching these two guys fight on the old World Warrior machine. good times.

Does anyone know when more information for this game will become available???? Is there a Japanese site that says more or anything hehe i am really excited for this game. Has there been any information about what consoles are getting this game?

I think tomorrow is the last day of Capcom's event. I don't think there will be anymore info on the game anytime soon, it's just a tease. Unless there's embargos.

My prediction: Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. Capcom will want to make the most of this much anticipated comeback for the series and sell the maximum number of copies possible. I reckon it will definitely play like a 2D game, only with 3D cell shaded characters (which will make things easier for the Wii simultaneously) to try and get a nice art style going like in the trailer.

We'll see what happens though. icon_smile.gif
