Guitar Hero III gets more tracks

PALGN News | Seventeen new songs.
Guitar Hero has taken over the world, and the newest game in the series, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, set to be released in PAL regions next month on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, will no doubt prove to be just as popular.

Today Activision let slip on the names of seventeen new songs that we can expect to rock out to on release date. Of those new songs, seven of those will be the original recordings, rather than covers. Those seven are:
  • Aerosmith - Same Old Song and Dance
  • Bloc Party - Helicopter
  • Disturbed - Stricken
  • Matchbook Romance - Monsters
  • Slipknot - Before I Forget
  • Sonic Youth - Kool Thing
  • The Killers - When You Were Young
The remaining ten will be covers, but in the usual Guitar Hero style of sounding just like the original. They are:
  • Charlie Daniels Band - Devil Went Down to Georgia
  • Cream - Sunshine of Your Love
  • Dead Kennedys - Holiday in Cambodia
  • Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover
  • Pat Benetar - Hit Me with Your Best Shot
  • Santana - Black Magic Woman
  • Social Distortion - Story of My Life
  • Stevie Ray Vaughn - Pride and Joy
  • The Who - The Seeker
  • White Zombie - Black Sunshine
This brings the total number of tracks up to 58, not including the 'boss battles' - insane, really. If you're not already up to speed, here's the other songs that Activision have confirmed will be in the game - these first 32 will be the original songs by the artists, plus the two confirmed boss battles.
  • AFI - Miss Murder
  • Backyard Babies - Minus Celsius
  • Beastie Boys - Sabotage
  • Die Toten Hosen - Hier Kommt Alex
  • Dragonforce - Through Fire and Flames
  • Gallows - In the Belly of a Shark
  • Guns N' Roses - Welcome to The Jungle
  • Heroes Del Silencio - Avalancha
  • In Flames - Take This Life
  • Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
  • Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby
  • Lacuna Coil - Closer
  • Living Colour - Cult of Personality
  • Metallica - One
  • Muse - Knights of Cydonia
  • NAAST - Mauvais Garcon
  • Pearl Jam - Even Flow
  • Preistess - Lay Down
  • Rage Against the Machine - Bulls on Parade
  • Queens of the Stone Age - 3's and 7's
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers - Suck My Kiss
  • Revolverheld - Generation Rock
  • Slayer - Raining Blood
  • Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock
  • Superbus - Radio Song
  • Tenacious D - The Metal
  • The Hellacopters - I'm in the Band
  • The Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the U.K.
  • The Strokes - Reptillia
  • The Rolling Stones - Paint It Black
  • Weezer My Name is Jonas
  • Slash's Original Boss Battle Recording
  • Tom Morello's Original Boss Battle Recording
The remaining songs are all covers.
  • Alice Cooper - School's Out
  • Paranoid - Paranoid
  • Blue Oyster Cult - Cities on Flame
  • Foghat - Slow Ride
  • Heart - Barracuda
  • Kiss - Rock and Roll All Nite
  • Mountain - Mississippi Queen
  • The Scorpions - Rock You Like a Hurricane
  • ZZ Top - La Grange
Phew. That seems like a pretty complete list, but if there are any more additions, we will keep you informed.

If only they had custom soundtrack, I'd buy a GH.

Guitar Hero was so crap I thought, Guitar Hero II however was one of the funnest and most addictive games ever, well for me anyways, and then Rocks the 80's was crap again. But I have good feeling about GHIII, should be good, hopefully PS3 version wont be delayed...

Did i miss the article about this being delayed? Last time i read it was late October, now its November 7th????

Oh my god. Tracks.

Interesting they got a The Who song in - Rock Band's first full album will be The Who (and I imagine original recording too).

Devil Went Down to Georgia is going to be H-A-R-D. Curious inclusion though because it doesn't have guitar in it, but rather a fiddle. Still, there has been covers involving guitars so I guess the GHIII version will be closer to those.

Ok, get Frets On Fire, find a song that you have that you want in, import it and try to do it yourself. Hard eh?

Custom Soundtracks in Guitar Hero games are utterly pointless, and it'd take several weeks to get a somewhat decent creation.

CLIFFS OF DOVER! I was going to get GHIII no matter what, but now I'm going to get it... even more.

Oh and by the way, whoever thought it was a good idea to include Slipknot in Guitar Hero III should be completely shot. It's not music.

Still no Mastodon icon_sad.gif

While I don't support slipknot, i have a funny feeling they have sold many more albums than we ever will, hence it's inclusion on GHIII

Frets on what?.. icon_confused.gif Sorry that doesnt make sense, and I dont know what you're getting at. I dont know where you're pulling answer from or how'd you assume that. And take several weeks? That sounds weird.

HAHAHA Before I Forget, I can just see me and my mates head banging to this song icon_smile.gif. Bringing back the good old days when we listened to Slipknot/System of a Down and head banged!!!

Fan-Based Game where you can add your own songs, but you need to make your own note-charts or download others ones have made.

You can't expect to make a game that has a built-in engine where it can split an mp3 File then magically create a screen of button presses for you to abide by.

Gotta disagree with that, Before I Forget is much more interesting to 'play'. Duality is probably a better song but the guitar just hangs around doing nothing in between the chorus parts.

Can't wait anyway, the soundtrack on paper has to be the stongest yet icon_biggrin.gif

awesome, if only they had that banjo song on it, sure its not being done with guitar, but ever since hearing it i just wan't to at least pretend to play instead of having to actually 'learn' how todo it.

Dueling Banjos would be wicked, Although Devil Went Down to Georgia is a great track. If they're going for craziness they should chuck in Malmsteen's cover of Beethoven's 5th.

...Hacked Guitar Hero songs aren't magic either, it uses the exact method I described: DIY.

This I agree with. Now we need songs from other people who've done the G3 thing (Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen) in either GH3 or Rock Band.

I'm quite happy with GH3's tracklist so far. The only things left for me to worry about are notechart design, timing and responsiveness (remember, GH3 is by Neversoft, not Harmonix).

I want them to put Gangster of Love by Steve Miller Band in the game. It would be a fun song to play and it would be a beginner song as well. Sure it's not Rock n Roll guitar, but if they put in a song like Jessica on Guitar Hero 2 (which is a fun song to play and i like it) then they could put in Gangster of Love.

I would buy the game twice for that song.

I just checked youtube for Gangster of Love in response to your post. The Johnny Guitar Watson performance of it was incredibly cool. Good choice icon_smile.gif .
