Australian Gaming Bargains - 19/07/07

PALGN Feature | Target toy sale starts today.
Hopefully you haven’t spent your money over the past few weeks as Target’s toy sale has just started as the others have ended. Once again, we’re not going to point out any particular savings (with the exception of the newly released Mario Party 8 for only $73.95) as there’s simply so many great specials on offer. The Myer and JB Hi-Fi listings have also been updated as well as the usual Kmart (20% off everything except consoles by the way) and Big W bargains.

Scarface (with bonus DVD): $39
Does this version exist?

That's a mistake on JB Hi-Fi's part (they actually list Xbox 360 in writing on the front cover of the games adverts).

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll edit it.

How about the one with Harry Potter for $9?

Looks like there might be a missing digit there...

(btw, new to this forum, but this weekly price update thing is great, I'm a poor uni student so I appreciate having a guide to the cheapest places to buy stuff).

I agree Lord Haart - the weekly bargains is a great feature and I commend Joseph for typing it all in. The department stores certainly don't make it easy - the size of the catalogues just seems to get bigger and bigger.

My pick is the blue Nintendo DS + Spectrobes for $217 @ Target. Makes a great birthday present...

I'm still hanging for Okami on PS2 to be reduced...

Okami is like $50 at Dicksmith Power House, or at least is was last time I checked.

I'm getting used to typing with my new laptop (no number pad on the side... someone should make one that connects to the USB ports) and I missed a 7. It should've read $79. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm glad you look forward to reading the listings each week. icon_wink.gif

I bought Mercury Meltdown Revo for $49.95 at Target. Good bye and a fun title, pity my Wii is in a cold room which makes it less appealing do to cold weather. I also went into Kmart and they had Kororinpa (or however you spell it) for $60. With the 20% off it makes it $48. I might go back and get it, I simply didn't buy it today because I already had Mercury Meltdown Revo and they're both puzzle games although they do have differences which would warrent having both - from what I've read.

Thanks for your awesome effort on this Joseph. This list certainly looks like it took a lot of love and time to produce. I; for one, appreciate your efforts!

Cool, I know Harry Potter for PC was $25 at EBgames (still is afaik), but $9 sounded a little odd icon_razz.gif

Any particularly good prices for 360 games/items? (aside from the target-12 months live for $50). Anyone know if Kmart's 20% off extends to xbox live points? I'm hoping there's cheaper ways to get these, $25 for 1500 points isn't really that great considering games are 800 pts.
I have a feeling that discounts dont apply to any kinds of points cards as they have a set prepaid value.
that's an interesting point with the xbox live points card for 20% off. The deal states that it's 20% off all games an accessories but not consoles. Looks like you're going to have to ask in store and find out.

hey there, i couldnt beleive it when i saw the deal@ jb for : ds lite+nintendog of your choice+case+usb cable..for wait...$188 icon_eek.gif ZOMG!

awsm yes?

answer: kind of

you see, i went to the closest jb hi fi to me which is the one in the brisbane cbd. i went to the counter and heres a short sample of how it all went down:

me: hey, can i get a ds?

clerk: sure, what colour?

me: white please

clerk: sorry little buddy, we're all sold out of white..

me: uh...ok..i'll get a black one

clerk: sure, goes to display case and pulls out nds black.

me: uhh...where do i get the case+usb?

clerk: o sorry little buddy, we're all sold out. in fact ALL JB HI FI in brisbane are out of stock atm.

me: uhh...ok....can i get some sort of...replacement case to the same value?

clerk: well..i could prolly sell you a bart simpson one for $10.. (it retails for 12 ffs >.>)

me:uhhh...no thanks, how bout you just say..sell me the ds for ohh... i dunno..$180?

clerk: sorry little buddy, cant do that, do you want it or not...

me: fine >.> give me the ds and nintendogs.

clerk: sorry about that.

me: *thinks to self* screw you *hands over hard earned $188*

icon_mad.gif well in case readers didnt know, the only reason why i wasted my time to go to jb hi fi was becuase i wanted the damn ds with case and usb and game for 188.

i dont get how the clerk could sell me a cr@pp bart simpson case for $2 cheaper..when he couldnt do ANYTHING about the price of the ds. not even 5c? yeh i hate you too jb hi fi

and for the record, im not a little buddy. i was taller than the clerk. lol at the noob >.>

^ I can't see how he's the n00b when you were the one who got pwned. He sold you something you didn't want. You need to build up ye old confidence.

icon_confused.gif

i didnt want? icon_confused.gif

but i DID want the ds, it didnt matter if it was black or white,

and the fact it came with nintendogs at $188 with or without the case and usb thing is still cheap, espcially compared to EB/target etc.

i was asking how it was possible that he could offer me $2 off the popular *cough* bart simpson case but couldnt do ANYTHING about the DS price.

the bart simpson case is what I DIDNT want ...

uhh..maybe what i wrote wasnt really that clear, sorry bout that icon_redface.gif

You should've asked to see the manager. They have final say over what can be discounted and what couldn't. You then could have made it clear about the advert (point it out in the catalog if you need too) and say if they didn't have the usb, then they either order you one and give it to you for free upon delivery or give you a small discount on the system itself.

If you stood your ground, as crestfallen said, you probably would've got some sort of deal for them not having the USB and case.

I hate it when a store advertises an item and then you go there and they're sold out. I was going to purchase a 1GB SD card at JB for $20 as per their advert but they were sold out of the 1GB ones and only had the 512MB and 2GB ones left. I just walked out.
