E3 2007: Full album downloads for Rock Band

PALGN News | Who's Next first up, weekly content updates promised, Metallica's sandman enters.
With more and more information on Harmonix and EA's MTV driven Rock Band unleashed in the wake of E3, comes arguably the most exciting news for any respectable bedroom rocker - Rock Band will offer full album downloads of rock's greatest, playable by any wannabe on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The first album to christen this development first for a videogame, let alone any media industry? Why none other than The Who's 1971 perennial classic - and arguably, also their best - Who's Next?.

But that's not all. Secondly, in a purely 'awesome' sense, Harmonix has also unveiled a partial list of 16 of the confirmed artists and songs that will ship with Rock Band on release. Spanning decades of nostaligic head-banging and soothing guitar rhythms, perhaps the perfect example of the benefits of an EA and MTV partnership is the inclusion of (probably) everybody's favourite Metallica anthem, "Enter Sandman".

With only a slight few tracks bearing the burden of being a cover version, not unlike the 'as made famous by' Guitar Hero routine, four man bands can nevertheless expect to be thrashing out the classic likes of the following come later this year:

    1970s

  • Black Sabbath - "Paranoid" (cover)
  • Blue Oyster Cult - "Don't Fear the Reaper"
  • David Bowie - "Suffragette City"
  • Mountain - "Mississippi Queen" (cover)
  • The Ramones - "Rockaway Beach"
  • The Who - "Won't Get Fooled Again"

    1980s

  • Bon Jovi - "Wanted Dead or Alive"
  • Rush - "Tom Sawyer" (cover)

    1990s

  • Foo Fighters - "Learn to Fly"
  • Metallica - "Enter Sandman"
  • Nirvana - "In Bloom"
  • Stone Temple Pilots - "Vasoline"
  • Weezer - "Say It Ain't So"

    2000s

  • Queens of the Stone Age - "Go With the Flow"
  • The Hives - "Main Offender"
  • The Strokes - "Reptilia"

Guitar Hero games I and II have received Megadeth songs (Symphony of Destruction and Hangar 18, respectively) im hoping that the trend continues if not with GHIII then with this, in that the (arguably) greatest Megadeth song is included....

FIVE MAGICS!

the problem with this song for GH (or Rock Band) game is that it would be freakishly hard. Seriously. The ultimate face-melting playing of Marty Friedman at the song's conclusion would make not only the gaming console explode but also the everyone's heads. Similarly to that of Master Exploder by Tenacious D (which would also make an excellent song to play on GH)

Man, I think I might need to sell my PS2 GH gears and get me the 360 version, and then get this bad boy. It looks **** fantastic.

I don't know why but I almost feel bad for the GH franchise now. If you can only go for one of the games Rock Band is looking like the choice! Hell it's basically GH plus more AND with bigger names at this point! I know that *my* room is going to be packed with fake instruments by the end of the year!
