Bleach announced for Wii and DS

PALGN News | Based on the upcoming anime.
Sega Europe have officially confirmed via a press release that European gamers can look forward to the release of two fighting games for the Wii and Nintendo DS based on the upcoming Bleach anime series which is scheduled to air shortly across Europe. The titles in question are called Bleach: Shattered Blade on the Wii and Bleach: The Blade of Fate for the Nintendo DS, both of which follow the story of fifteen-year-old Ichigo Kurosaki who has the ability to see and communicate with spirits including warriors known as Soul Reapers. Soul Reapers are special beings who protect humans from evil creatures known as Hollows. One day, Ichigo encounters Rukia, a Soul Reaper who gives him her powers after being injured by a Hollow.

In Bleach: Shattered Blade for the Wii, players will apparently be able to use the Wii remote and Nunchuck “as their weapons” by slashing, jabbing and lunging their way to victory as if they were a Soul Reaper. There will be a total of 32 characters to play as with several of them unlockable through the game’s story mode which has been created specifically for the Wii. Players will also be able to summon supernatural “allies” such as giant snakes, samurai titans and even tidal waves for battle support in 3D arenas and environments taken directly from the TV series. Multiplayer support has also been confirmed, although details are limited at this stage.

Bleach: The Blade of Fate for the Nintendo DS will be developed by Treasure and will feature 2D graphics along with 28 characters and will allow players to switch between both the top and bottom screens. There will also be a Spirit Card system that will allow players to uses a range of power-ups and power-downs to perform special attacks, cast healing spells and give themselves a distinct advantage over rivals by, for example, prohibiting them from using their own Spirit Cards. Once again, Wi-Fi multiplayer has been confirmed, but it is currently unknown if the game will support an online mode or, more importantly, single-card download capabilities.

“The content of the Bleach story lends itself perfectly to an action packed arcade fighting game with a heavy dose of mighty sword battles”, said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director SEGA Europe. “Both the flexibility of the Wii and the portability of the DS have allowed us to bring the intense action of Bleach to a wide variety of gamers and make a great companion to the awesome forthcoming TV series”.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with SEGA Europe for the Bleach Wii and DS games”, explains John Easum, president of VIZ Media Europe. “The SEGA Bleach games are outstanding and have already enjoyed immense success in Japan. In Europe, the manga is already a top-seller, and the exciting TV series will soon launch. We are expecting a very big response to the SEGA games”.

Both Bleach titles are expected to be released in early 2008 following the premier of the anime series of the same name on Euro television. Although no official word has been provided as yet for Australian gamers, the likelihood of a local release is fair given there are very few titles released in Europe and not Australia.

Hopefully they should arrive here soon since the anime is being shown on Foxtel.

Finally they are releasing a Bleach game somewhere other than Japan. I'll probably be preordering this as soon as I can, although I will be waiting to see if it looks good though.

Are these English versions of the Japanese games, or completely new ones?

I'd also like to know. From what I hear the Japanese Wii Bleach gave is fairly average, but the DS games are the bees knees.

I'm 90% sure that they are English translations of the Japanese games, they mention how they've already been successful in Japan.

This is excellent news, and about damn time. I was starting to wonder if Bleach would ever be released aired (along with the games finally coming with it)!

I suppose this is alright for people who get into Bleach via the dubbed anime, but for us fans of the original, I'm sure the new voices will be far, far to irritating to bear. I'm steering well clear of both, since I already have Bleach DS and a translated Bleach Wii will still play like ****.
