In Bleach: Shattered Blade for the Wii, players will apparently be able to use the Wii remote and Nunchuck “as their weapons” by slashing, jabbing and lunging their way to victory as if they were a Soul Reaper. There will be a total of 32 characters to play as with several of them unlockable through the game’s story mode which has been created specifically for the Wii. Players will also be able to summon supernatural “allies” such as giant snakes, samurai titans and even tidal waves for battle support in 3D arenas and environments taken directly from the TV series. Multiplayer support has also been confirmed, although details are limited at this stage.
Bleach: The Blade of Fate for the Nintendo DS will be developed by Treasure and will feature 2D graphics along with 28 characters and will allow players to switch between both the top and bottom screens. There will also be a Spirit Card system that will allow players to uses a range of power-ups and power-downs to perform special attacks, cast healing spells and give themselves a distinct advantage over rivals by, for example, prohibiting them from using their own Spirit Cards. Once again, Wi-Fi multiplayer has been confirmed, but it is currently unknown if the game will support an online mode or, more importantly, single-card download capabilities.
“The content of the Bleach story lends itself perfectly to an action packed arcade fighting game with a heavy dose of mighty sword battles”, said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director SEGA Europe. “Both the flexibility of the Wii and the portability of the DS have allowed us to bring the intense action of Bleach to a wide variety of gamers and make a great companion to the awesome forthcoming TV series”.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with SEGA Europe for the Bleach Wii and DS games”, explains John Easum, president of VIZ Media Europe. “The SEGA Bleach games are outstanding and have already enjoyed immense success in Japan. In Europe, the manga is already a top-seller, and the exciting TV series will soon launch. We are expecting a very big response to the SEGA games”.
Both Bleach titles are expected to be released in early 2008 following the premier of the anime series of the same name on Euro television. Although no official word has been provided as yet for Australian gamers, the likelihood of a local release is fair given there are very few titles released in Europe and not Australia.
