Edit: I just looked it up, Wii launched on 7th December 2006 and Ps3 launched on 23rd March 2007 and these sales figures are from April to June....so you're ALL wrong (except for SMASHED who I can see was right by saying it was 8 days after the Ps3 launched....but still that doesn't make my logic sizzled...infact it further cements my logic), these Ps3 sales figures aren't even including it's first 8 days of sales where it would've sold the largest amounts in the shortest times because of the launch hype etc etc, so even without including it's launch sales the Ps3 in the last 3 months has beaten the Wii and the 360 in sales! EXACTLY what I said in my original post! icon_rolleyes.gif Man what a waste of time, I researched all this crap only to say exactly what I said in my 1st post because you guys couldn't get your heads around it! Bah you fools! icon_razz.gif
No-one here suggested that the period discussed actually included the PS3 launch - the article itself makes that clear by having two totals, one for the last 3 months (27,645) and a higher number for the total (54,728). I don't know what 'research' you claim to have done, but all the information was there to begin with.

So we heard that the PS3 passed 50,000 a week or so ago from this story on this website:

http://palgn.com.au/article.php?id=8040&sid=60281c13c5201feddaf4f4ce8bf983c5

It took 14 weeks to reach that number. But we know that the Wii reached 50,000 in only 3 weeks from that same article. We also know that just like the Wii, the 360 had a much better launch then the PS3, selling only slightly less then the Wii did at launch (42,000ish for the first four days I think).

And yet both Wii and 360 slowed down a few weeks after their launches, as expected.

I don't see how you can think that the PS3 is somehow doing better then either the 360 or Wii. Both had better launches, both sold much better shortly after their launches, and both now have a massive lead on the PS3 and growing again (as the article above also shows, where the Sony guy said the PS3 was "outselling Wii and Xbox 360 every week, except for last week,").

Yeah I agree. The PS3 numbers are probably in par with everything else, if not worse. The high price point is a total bumper for them moving forward.

We have to number that the PS3 is doing much worse in Japan and US in comparison too. It's getting whipped by the Wii and 360 (in the US).

Seriously, I see the PS3 very similar to the PSP at this stage. May be a better unit and value for money (but at a high entry point), but it's not really catering to want the public wants.

Ok the PS3 launched 8 days before these sales started getting counted, so your logic is kind of sizzled.
I don't understand? So you're saying this isn't including the 1st 8 days of it's sales...where it probably would've sold the largest volumes in the shortest times? I don't understand....so even without it's first 8 days of sales it managed to beat the Wii and the 360 in the last 3 months.....well that's even better then! So yea i'm confused how is my logic sizzled? Or did you mean 8 days before the Wii sales started being counted? Cuz that would make sense, although when did the Wii launch again?

The casuals aren't informed on release dates icon_razz.gif

Ok you win whatever, but still top selling still doesn't mean there going to win.

Very good point, considering that the GameCube had a good start but then bombed completely.

EDIT: I still think that the PS3 is not going to attract the casual gamer crowd, which will make it such a success like the PS2, until it comes down in price and something like SingStar comes out.

Ah smashed's good points told to date: 1

The only abysmal chance the PS3 has of attracting the casuals is if they get the console to $800 minimum and drastically do something. I suggest advertise littlebigplanet and singstar like never before.

Why on earth the GCN bombed I don't know, we had an awesome selection of launch games.

I can't remember its launch exactly, but it just didn't have 3rd party support for the rest of its life.

The PS3 may have Singstar, but very few people will lay down $1k for it.

No third party, it was purple, long waits between games, no online, expensive software, next to no advertising, no DVD player...I have no idea either icon_razz.gif

I was one of the few who liked the Cube being purple. Everything was grey or black back in the days. And I like the colour. icon_biggrin.gif

So, forgetting people that buy multiple consoles, basically 10% of the population has a PS2?

That's crazy!

The simple point I was trying to make (which seems to have alluded a lot of you) is that from april till now the Ps3 has sold the most consoles in that period only! I find this point important because from now till whenever it will be interesting to see which console can maintain the highest sales and imo could be a real indication as to who the winner of this next-gen race would be because now that the consoles don't have the added incentive of launch hype etc.
